A couple of days after the big shock from the Tamil Nadu government, working to shut racing operations at Guindy, the Madras Race Club (MRC) managed to gain a `stay' from the court and the club and the government, it is learnt are now working out on a deal which will be finalised in the month ahead to shift racing to a different location. Meanwhile the horses continued to gallop to fame and the jockeys heartily paraded their skills at Guindy on Saturday.
A model of consistency, Pink Jasmine from the stables of Saddam Iqbal, who has never been off the frame in her last six starts came up tops in the Mystical Trophy, the plum event run over 1100 metres dash. On the strength of her impressive showing in her last essay, going down by the shortest of margins to New Dimension, the supporters of Pink Jasmine were bullish of her chances in the feature and the in-form six-year-old mare justified the confidence of her cheer brigade romping home nice and easy in the hands of Kaviraj. The topweighted Golden Marina from Ramanathan's yard did well to gain the runner-up berth ahead of Sonic Dash, while the favourite Opus One, a smart last start winner tipped to win again found this company too hot to handle and much to the disappointment of his large following failed to even save money in place. Pink Jasmine is in rousing form and it will pay to again support her in the higher class.
A facile last start winner Aspira from the stables of Deepesh Narredu chalked out her second straight success powering home in the Chaitanya Ratham Handicap run over a sprint. A confident Yash Narredu produced a copybook effort on the on-money favourite, who is likely to record a hat-trick, when saddled next. The Suraj Shaw schooled Seeking The Stars followed the winner home ahead of the second in demand at the betting ring, Gold Ride from James McKeown's yard, while Celeste completed the frame.
The Sebastian-trained Bluemed, who found the talented Pluto too strong to tackle, struck it rich in the Bugs Bunny Handicap run over a distance of seven furlongs.Apprentice jockey Ram Nandan Manjhi astride the overwhelming favourite was in a spot of bother, the public choice not favourably placed at the top of the straight, but the moment he got into his stride, the favourite zoomed through to score in emphatic fashion. Wisaka from Parmar's yard again finished a creditable second after she finished behind the winner Rubert in her last essay. Cloud Jumper from the stables of Suraj Shaw fancied strongly in place did well to finish third much to the delight of the Shaw camp.
In a thrilling finish, rank outsider Sensations from Ajith Kumar's yard edged out the lesser fancied Rinello and the topweighted Kallania in the concluding event, the Garden City Handicap run over a mile. The favourite Abilitare from Fahad Khan's yard was never in the hunt and as a result finished down the field much to the chagrin of the followers of form who strongly fancied her to score after her suggestive last essay.
Earlier, the 15 to one shot Mr Starc from Parmar's yard partnered by Dhanu Singh showed a clean pair of heels to his 10 rivals, cruising home in effortless style to stand tall at the winning podium in the lower division of the Good Luck Handicap run over a sprint. Lesser fancied Desert Star under the care of Sebastian caught the eye finishing on fastest at end to gain the runner-up berth, while Lord Of The Turf took the third spot. The favourite Ugly Truth again let his followers down badly finishing last in the 10-horse field. The five to one shot Sunny Isles was withdrawn at the gates.
In the upper division of the event, the second favourite Knotty :Power from Ramanathan's yard chalked out his second straight success making every post a winning one in the hands of leading saddle artiste Yash Narredu. The favourite Greeley from Suraj Shaw's yard performed below par and failed to make the board. Choice finished on well to take the second spot and on the strength of this performance is ready to enter the winners' circle in the weeks ahead.
