Trainer Parvati Byramji leading Golden Peak (D S Deora up), winner of The Rajakumari Leelavathi Devi Memorial Trophy

Two long shots in the final two events tilted the balance in favour of the bookmakers. The 15 to one shot, The Perfect Choice stunned the followers of form in the Meerut Plate and another rank outsider Mega Success floored the punters in the concluding event, the Jaganmohana Palace Plate.

On the strength of his impressive effort in his last essay, shorthead second behind Southern Force on the opening day of the season, Macron from Pradeep Annaiah's yard was strongly fancied to score in the Meerut Plate run over a distance of 1100 metres. The favourite in the hands of apprentice jockey Faiz did produce his best but that was just not good enough to beat The Perfect Choice who produced a winning gallop in the final 100 metres to upset the applecart of the public choice. Tower Quest from Girinath's yard finished third, while Golden Time from Lokanath's yard was never in the hunt.

A smart last start winner, Ancient History from Darius Byramji's yard opened the favourite in the final event before the supporters of The Grey Geranium from Lokanasth's yard went bang-bang in the betting ring and soon the two shared top place on the betting board, the pundits considering the `Jodi' safe. But that was not to be, Mega Success in the hands of Vinod Shinde powering home much to the chagrin of the railbirds. Ancient History finished second, while The Grey Geranium in his attempt to make every post a winning one ran out of gas in the final furlong and had to rest content with the third spot.

A facile last start winner, Golden Peaks from Parvati Byramji's yard justified favouritism in the Rajakumari Leelavathi Devi Memorial Trophy, the plum event run over a mile. Dhanu Singh Deora who replaced Akshay Kumar on the public choice produced a copybook effort on the winner who appears in good form and is set to record a hat-trick when saddled next. The second in demand at the betting ring, Kalamitsi again disappointed finishing a poor fourth behind Knight In Hooves, while Segera did well to gain the runner-up spot.

The principal added attraction, the RRR Trophy, split into two divisions saw the well-backed favourite Brightest Star from Michael Eshwer's yard come good in the upper division. In the absence of Akshay Kumar, Trevor Patel partnered the winner who made every post a winning one in the seven furlongs trip. Heroism from Monappa's yard was strongly fancied to upset the Michael ward, but the Monappa trainee found Brightest Star too hot to handle and only managed to follow the winner home. Terminator from the stables of Vishal Yadav caught the eye while finishing third and is one for the notebook. Brightest Star is on top of his game and is set to record a hat-trick when saddled next.

The lower division of the event saw the Rakesh-trained Swagatham piloted by leading pro Antony Raj snuff out the challenge of the public choice Dynamic Force close home to the delight of his supporters. The seven to one shot looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring before producing his best to stand tall at the podium. Lesser fancied Absolute Conqueror finished third, while the second in demand at the betting ring, Socrates planted at the gates.

NRI Ace from the stables of Sajid Qureshi proved too good in the upper division of the Secunderabad Plate. The short-priced winner piloted by four-kilo claimer K Rajesh despite shifting out a trifle in the straight spared seven lengths to Cloudy Hills and on the strength of this performance is set to provide an encore. The five to one shot Mystical Merlin won the second division of the event producing a winning gallop in the hands of apprentice jockey Faiz. Perfect Heart from Bobby's yard was fancied most, but she found the in-form Mystical Merlin too good on the day. Aaradhana finished third ahead of Ankush who was strongly fancied in place but failed to come good despite Angad packing punch all through the final two furlongs.
