By Ikram Khan | 04 Oct 2024 | MYSORE
Trainer James Mckeown leading John Wick (S J Moulin Up), winner of The Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club Mysore 2000 Guineas (Gr.3)
The talented John Wick from James McKeown's yard chalked out his third straight victory, while recording his maiden classic success, winning the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club Mysore 2000 Guineas in emphatic fashion. Julien Moulin partnering the champion colt took John Wick to the front soon after the seven colts settled down in the mile long classic journey and the star performer stayed ahead right till the very end to maintain his unbeaten record. The fact that John Wick has won all his three starts in different centres in his first outing is a feather in the cap of James, who it must be mentioned sent out the top performer fighting fit for the classic event. The Satish Narredu schooled Bourbonaire, who graced the wrong end of the field for most part of the journey finished on well at end in the hands of Yash Narredu to gain the runner-up berth ahead of Mandarino, while the local mainhope Aabushan, it is clear didn't like the steady drizzle during the event and failed to reproduce his last effort. John Wick's next target will be the blue riband of the season, the Mysore Derby scheduled to be held on October 27 and the champion colt will again be a frontliner for the marquee event.
The Santosh Rao camp brought off a successful coup on The Sizable in the Nainital Plate run over a mile. The strongly backed public choice piloted by Ramu zoomed past the two leaders Wind Whistler and Thalaivaa approaching the distance spot to romp home in fine style. Thalaivaa gained the runner-up berth ahead of Wind Whistler. The winner, it is clear is in top nick and is set to provide an encore.
Earlier, Brilliant Light from the stables of Ramesh was touted as a `moral certainty' by the insiders in the Ramesh camp and the winner proved them right cantering home without being unduly extended in the upper division of the Coorg Plate run over a sprint. Only a Light in a cluster finish for the second spot edged out Pette's Choice, while D Romance completed the frame. Brilliant Light, it is clear is a better class horse and it will pay to again follow him in his next start. Emeraldo in fact opened the favourite in this
event before money came pouring in on the winner Brilliant Light. But the manner in which AR Pradeep piloted the Pradeep Annaiah ward was too bad to be true and calls for an explanation. The stipes and stewards of the club need to exercise strict vigil and crack the whip on the offenders who are getting away scot-free at this centre.
The upper division of the event was claimed by the Narayan Gowda schooled Ice Storm, a medium of a successful gamble. The winner piloted by Rajesh Kumar was backed down from (8/1) to (7/2) and to the delight of his supporters sprinted past the favourite Epsom Downs close home. Amazing Luck finished on purposefully at end to take the third spot, while the second in demand at the betting ring, Bundelkhand Queen from Vishal Yadav's yard piloted by Naveen was never in the hunt.
In the event for juveniles, the Justice P Medapa Memorial Cup run over a distance of seven furlongs, trainer JS Pillay recorded a 1-2 finish, the lesser fancied Sapient following his more fancied stablemate Sherpa home. The Sajid Qureshi-trained NRI Victory was strongly fancied to score, but much to the disappointment of her large following lost about seven lengths at the break and though she made up lost ground and was second behind Sherpa as the field negotiated the bend, she it was clear had run out of gas and finished down the field. All credit to JS Pillay for sending out Sherpa spot on and the best looking contestant in the paddock parade readily won in the hands of Anil Baandal.
In the principal added attraction, the Maj Sardar L Mahadevaiah Memorial Trophy run over a sprint the five to one shot Il Volo from Sulaiman Attaollahi's yard in the hands of Shreyas Singh made every post a winning one. The well-backed Art Gallery from Dominic's yard despite Akshay Kumar packing punch all through the straight found the winner too hot to handle. High Speed Dive finished a suggestive third and it will pay to follow this Sriram Komandur trainee in the weeks ahead.
In the concluding event, the Dupont Plate run over a sprint, Red Hills from Ashwin Rao's yard and Dalhousie from the stables of Aditya garnered the maximum support and the two led from the front and fought every inch of the ground before Red Hills in the hands of Sameer to the delight of her supporters came out on top. D Fighter was seen finishing on well at the end to take the third spot and is one for the notebook.
