Mr Sunil Santhosh Serrao & trainer R Helleal Moses leading Tom Cruiser (Koshi Kumar up), winner of The Mysore Dasara Sprint Championship (Gr.2)

It was good to see a local Mysore horse donkey-lick his six Bengaluru rivals including the pipping hot favourite Isn't She Beautiful in the prestigious Dasara Sprint Championship on Thursday. Rankoutsider Tom Cruiser from Helleal Moses' yard piloted by Koshi Kumar after seizing initiative at the distance post gallantly hung on and pegged back the belated effort of the public rage, who surprisingly travelled all the way wide and this cost the favourite dear at the end. Amreli finished third ahead of Imperial Blue, while the second in demand at the betting ring Aldgate shockingly finished last in the feature event.

The principal added attraction, the Sri Kanteerava Narasimharaja Sports Club Trophy saw Sherouk from Jaishankar Pillay's yard garner the maximum support, but the public choice failed to match strides with the first two, the winner Ashwa Vedha and the second placed Hand Of God. The winner from Satish Narredu's yard piloted by Vinod Shinde was interfered badly by Hand Of God a furlong from home, the Joseph Awale ward partnered by L Alex Rozario alarmingly shifting out right in front of Vinod Shinde's mount, but Vinod did well to check his mount before packing punch in the final 100 metres to record a emphatic victory. Sherouk in the hands of Sandesh failed to produce her best and finished a tame third.

A big gamble on Vijaya Falcon from Joseph Awale's yard flopped badly, the supporters of the heavily backed favourite losing out big in the Urs Kar Trophy run over a sprint.

The public choice was hammered down from (4/1) to (11/10), but the strongly fancied contestant was never in the hunt and finished down the field much to the chagrin of his large following. The Perfect Choice from Warren Singh's yard piloted by Vinod Shinde gained the day ahead of the Rakesh schooled Prince Corporate, who appears to have regained form and fitness and will prove to be a different proposition next time out. Eddie The Eagle in the hands of apprentice Faiz did well to finish third. Vijaya Falcon, it must be mentioned is badly out of form and it will do a world of good if you ignore this Awale trainee.

In the concluding event, the Triveni Plate run over a sprint, the Ranjeet Shinde-trained Miraculous Girl and N R I Touch from the stables of Sajid Qureshi were fancied most. The former in the hands of Gautam Raj Urs gained the day in style and all credit to Ranjeet for pulling off a good gamble in the hands of lesserlight Gautam Raj Urs. N R I Touch who found the `Girl' too hot to handle finished second ahead ahead of Wellington who caught the eye and is one for the notebook.

Earlier, Sergeant Reckless who let down large following in his last start helped his supporters recoup their losses coming up tops in the Lokapavani Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. Alex Rozario produced a copybook effort on the winner, who proved too good at the end, snuffing out the challenge of Deemed To Fire and Perfect Heart. The favourite Aurele from Feroz Khan's yard performed below par and failed to even save money in place.

Country's Light in the opening event, the Lalithamahal Plate was backed as if his defeat was out of question and that proved right, the Joseph Awale ward in the hands of Prabhakaran showing a clean pair of heels to his 10 rivals to the delight of all the big bettors. The winner won by a big margin of eight lengths and on the strength of this performance is certain to provide an encore. Stablemate Lead Singer followed Country's Light home, while D United finished a creditable third and it will not be long before he earns his winning bracket.
