Alla Famiglia has it easy

Alla Famiglia (M Mark up) winner of the Kanteerava Cup being led in by trainer Mr. Byramji

Contrary to expectations of Torodoro having a decisive say in the 1200 metres Kanteerava Cup, it was lesser fancied Alla Famiglia who gave a bold show and won at nourishing odds, the feature event of Friday. Zimmerman who lost considerable ground at the start finished with a flourish to deprive Torodoro the satisfaction of getting the coveted second horse position. Some trainers are adept at training winners only for their owners and for themselves and not for investing public who incidentally pay for their very existence! Horses trained by Irfan Ghatala develop cold feet when they come in the public eye and run below par so much so that one can count on finger tips the number of favourites he has saddled to victory in his controversial career. As such, the one-sided support given to Torodoro was going to go awry but then the public does not learn (?) from past mistakes. Torodoro ran prominently in the front and took the final bend wide as is the wont with her pilot only to surrender meekly to Alla Famiglia when the latter essayed a strong challenge and faded to third slot. Another Irfan Ghatala trainee La Bella Vita, who had lost by a whisker last time out in a good quality field, trailed the field and the six-year old mare was not spotted and perhaps she must have headed straight to some stud farm for paddock assignment. Some relief for racing public! Diamond Caves had everything going for her when the mare took the final bend on the bridle but when asked for an effort, she just plodded. The front-running High Level held on grimly to bring off an upset at the expense of a late-finishing Allanah. Red Mamma tried to squeeze through High Level and Diamond Caves but the jockeys of these horses were not willing to let her shoot through and once again, Red Mamma let down a number of her persistent supporters. In the lower division of the T B Hanumantharaja Memorial Cup, trainer Loknath’s patience paid off as National Victory returned to winning ways, with a resolute win over Amazing Ability and Port To Port. National Victory had won her race as a three-year old in great fashion but then went sour and it took the trainer considerable period of time to get her mind back on racing and perform to her undoubted potential. Loknath was successful in recording a double for the day when Big Dream opened up a useful lead from the word `go’ and just about lasted out to win from a fast-finishing Braid Hills. Fancied San Gimmiano ran below expectations to be a poor third. Ponnappa trained That’s The Victory who had lost narrowly in her last outing, made amends with a comfortable win over Hold The Fort in the Talakaveri Plate (Div I). Star of Lords who had run a fair second time last time out, was poorly handled by Vivek who did not give any chance for the lesser fancied horse to make an impact on the result. In the lower division of the race, Dreams N Fantasies had it easy from favourite Rossi. Samar Singh trained Amber King recorded an encore when the son of Tejano lasted out the 2200 metres trip in the front and won in the hands of apprentice Tauseef. No Opposition came up with a late bid but once again he flattered to deceive.
