RAVISHING FORM MAKES PARVATI PROUD
By Ikram Khan | 26 Oct 2024 | MYSORE
Trainer Parvati Byramji leading Ravishing Form (Antony Raj S up), winner of The K T Shamaiah Gowda Memorial Cup
It proved to be a red letter day for Vinod Shinde. The much improved saddle artiste recorded a grand treble on the eve of the Cubic Mysore Derby to the delight of his father, the legendary Vasant Shinde. The son enjoying his best stint at Mysore opened his account through the eight to one shot Sarvottam from leading trainer Rakesh's yard. The advantageously placed in at the scales Rakesh ward competing in the Sri C Sashachalam Memorial Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs produced a sparkling gallop at the distance post and quickly put the race to bed in the final furlong. Second in demand at the betting ring, Aurele followed the lesser fancied winner home ahead of Free Spirited, while the favourite The Sizable, a smart last start winner failed in her mission to repeat her impressive last effort and eventually finished in the ruck.
Next astride the Warren Singh schooled Chotipari, Vinod pushed the grey filly to the front soon after the field of nine contestants came under the starter's flag for the mile long Bottolanda Trophy and stayed there right till the very end to the delight of her supporters. The public choice Hand Of God from Joseph's yard, who garnered the maximum support on the strength of his impressive showing in his last effort, second behind Ashwa Vedha, raced in patches and to the disappointment of his large following failed to even save money in place. The Vinesh Naik-trained Natural Speed surprised most gaining the runner-up berth ahead of the topweighted Confident Game, while Wellington completed the frame.
In line for a treble, Vinod Shinde partnering the favourite River Of Gold in the Sharan Lakshmanan Memorial Trophy run over a sprint had it easy, the MR Singh ward outclassing his 11 rivals in resplendent style. The winner, who had failed to display his true potential in his last essay after finishing a suggestive second behind Saint Emilion in his maiden effort this season put his best foot forward and soon it was clear that the strongly fancied favourite would romp home without breaking a sweat. River Of Gold did exactly that and VInod Shinde was on top of the world emerging the best `Knight' on the day before the D-day. The consistent Emerald Queen from Bobby's yard expectedly followed River Of Gold home ahead of Nimble Spirit who was sweetly fancied in place by the Mansoor camp.
A smart last start winner, Just Blues from Surender's yard provided an encore in the hands of Arvind Kumar. The winner hit the front soon after the dozen-horse field came under the starter's flag and never let the initiative slip gallantly pegging back the belated effort of the second favourite Domina, who lost a race she should have won thanks to the inept effort of Afsar Khan who failed to provide the MR Singh mare sufficient saddle assistance. The runner-up despite the ill-judged pathetic effort of Afsar Khan ran Just Blues close and it was a lesson to the connections of Domina, who in their effort to gain a good price on the fancied contestant lost a race thanks to the jockey who simply lacked the temperament to pull a rabbit out of the bag. The Tejaswi schooled Revelator opened the favourite in the event, the upper division of the Delhi Race Club Trophy, but it was clear that Revelator had not got the green signal to go and as a result finished off the frame.
The lower division of the event was claimed by the well fancied One Diamond from trainer Monnappa's yard piloted by four-kilo claimer Faiz, who in determined fashion assisted the second favourite to upset the applecart of the strongly fancied favourite Cool Winter from Bobby's yard at the shadow of the winning post. The Hellal Moses trainee Arigato took the third spot ahead of Master Victory who appears to have improved and is one for the notebook.
In the event for juveniles, the RM Puttanna Memorial Trophy, the Parvati Byramji-trained Eastern Gold making his debut opened the favourite before money came pouring in on the twice runner-up Mehra from the stables of Pradeep Annaiah. But it was Connecting Dots from trainer Lokanath's yard, who reigned supreme, producing a sublime effort in the hands of Imran Chisty who deputised for Vivek, who it is learnt had missed his flight from Delhi and failed to don silks in the royal city on Saturday. Connecting Dots appears to be a goodtype of youngster and it will pay to keep an eye on this vastly improved youngster in the Bangalore winter season starting on Rajyotsava day.
On the strength of his impressive victory in her last essay, Ashwa Vedha rightly garnered the maximum support in the HP Viswanathan Memorial Trophy, but the overwhelming favourite from Satish Narredu's yard met a tartar in Mystic Bond who provided the Japanese saddle artiste Akimasa his maiden success on Indian soil. Contributor finished a suggestive third, while another strongly fancied contestant Macron was withdrawn at the starting gates.
The Parvati Byramji-trained Ravishing Form, who loves the Mysore track justified favouritism in the KT Shamaiah Memorial Cup run over a distance of seven furlongs. Leading pro Antony Raj produced a copybook effort on the winner, biding his time before timing his final challenge to a nicety. All credit to Parvati who helped bring Ravishing Form back to winning ways after the game galloper had suffered a setback in training and subsequently lost his form before he was back in the winners' circle last season at this centre. Iron Clad continues to make his mark, gaining the runner-up berth despite gracing the wrong end of the field before charging home to edge out Prince Corporate, who in his attempt to make every post a winning one found the first two much superior.
