Trainer Deepesh Narredu leading New Dimension (Yash Narredu up), winner of the Chief Minister's Trophy
Leading saddle artiste Yash Narredu maintained his winning streak at Guindy. The unassuming pro recorded a fine treble including his victory on the favourite New Dimension in the Chief Minister's Trophy run over a sprint. The Deepesh Narredu-trained New Dimension, who had won her first start here after moving out of Mumbai performed below par in her next attempt over a seven furlongs trip. Now back over a sprint, the railbirds thought it fit to ignore her last effort and support the Deepesh ward. Yash produced an exemplary effort on the public choice, playing the waiting game as the speedy Pneuma and the nohoper Race To The Stars cut the wind before the Ramanathan-trained Golden Marina seized the initiative a furlong from home and looked set to record a shock win before Yash got busy on New Dimension and the public choice quickly stormed up to put the issue beyond doubt close home. Second in demand at the betting ring, Supreme Grandeur from Robert Foley's yard finished on fastest at end, but the belated effort was just not good enough to stop New Dimension and Yash from taking home the Chief Minister's Trophy. Golden Marina did well to finish third and it will pay to support this Ramanathan trainee when next saddled.
Earlier, astride the on-money favourite Andorra from the stables of James McKeown, Yash needed to produce his best to win the Secretariat Handicap by the shortest of margins from the lesser fancied Safety. The short-priced winner, who took time to warm up in this sprint event, was in trouble, Safety piloted by Inayat assuming command when the race came on a boil and sprinting through to upset the applecart of the heavily backed public choice. Yash in a never-say-die bid packed punch on the top fancy who flew home and snatched the verdict at the shadow of the winning post, a `nose' separating her from Safety at the post. Tycoonist from Vijay Singh's yard surprised most finishing third ahead of Sonic Dash.
In line for a treble, Yash looked relaxed and cool guiding the fortunes of the unbeaten Glorious King in the Kangra Trophy. Yash in no hurry, understanding that his mount was head and shoulders above his six rivals bided his time before timing his final assault to a nicety. The unbeaten `King' chalked out his fifth win from as many starts and he looks good and ready to continue his winning run. All credit to Deepesh for keeping Glorious King in top condition all through his journey so far and the `King' it appears is set to conquer all in his sight this season. Loch Lomond followed the big winner home ahead of Starkova.
The grey Alice Blue from Suraj Shaw's yard piloted in daring fashion by BR Kumar surprised the top fancy Royal Chivalry from Suresh's yard and the second in demand at the betting ring, Amazing Joy close home. Kumar astride Alice Blue pushed the lesser fancied winner through a small gap in the final furlong to gain the verdict at end. It was now or never for Kumar. He needed to run the risk and go for the gap knowing that it could close any moment, but fortune favoured the brave Kumar and he shot through to help Alice Blue enter the winners' circle in a thriller.
The Vijay Singh schooled Aarini opened the favourite in the opening event, the Balahaka Handicap run over 1100 metres before money came pouring in on the Robert Foley-trained Falconbridge. The supporters of Falconbridge quickly spread the good word that the race will prove to be a walk in the park for the Foley ward partnered by the five-kilo claimer N Darshan, but that was not to be, the heavily backed Foley trainee, who had finished second behind Lebua in his last essay failing to make an impression while taking sacks of money down the drain. Aarini who was offered at (5/1) at end after being hopelessly placed in the sprint dash covered acres of ground in the hands of Hindi Singh and much to the delight of Vijay Singh flashed home first. Abnegator gained the runner-up berth ahead of Words Worth who in his attempt to make every post a winning one hung on gamely to pick up money in place.
The Parmar schooled Authentic Bell registered her second win this season outclassing her seven rivals in the November Handicap run over a sprint. The winner piloted confidently by MS Deora looks in sublime touch and is likely to add one more to her kitty if her connections choose to quickly exploit her form in the weeks ahead.
