The talented Ranquelino produced his best when it mattered most. After a couple of dismal efforts at Kolkata, the classic hopeful from the stables of Darius Byramji was back at his best at his parent-centre, winning his last start over a mile in sublime fashion and in the second classic of the season, the Bangalore 2000 Guineas, the son of Fiero from the Manjri Stud Farm produced an outstanding effort in the hands of leading pro Sandesh to emerge the champion colt at this campus on the dreaded Friday the 13th. 

A day Grandma chooses not to stir out of her cottage, fearing the demons and the ill winds blowing through her colony, the youngsters of the modern world are just not bothered by the old fearsome superstitions. They simply believe in fortune favours the brave line and they are out bravely punting on a horse or happily playing poker at a casino, never mind good old grandma not willing to even peek out of the window. 

No ill wind touched Ranquelino and Sandesh on this day. Nor the demons stopped the man and the horse from galloping to fame. In fact Friday the 13th proved to be Good Friday for the Darius camp, Ranquelino chalking out his maiden classic success in soft underfoot conditions. Sandesh produced an exemplary effort on the winner, content to race in mid-division before packing punch at the top of the straight to take command and snuff out the challenge of the Mysore Derby winner Mandarino from Irfan Ghatala's yard close home. Akshay Kumar guiding the fortunes of the favourite Positano from trainer Sulaiman Attaollahi's yard, who took time to warm up before finishing on purposefully at end to take the third spot lodged an objection against Alex Rozario, the pilot of Mandarino, pointing out that Mandarino at the 600 metre mark had taken his ground and tightened him up, but his protest failed to impress the new set of Stewards following the elections to the managing committee on Thursday and the objection was rightly overruled. While the first three produced their best, Bourbonaire from Satish Narredu's yard, who had beaten Mandarino in the Mysore 2000 Guineas before going down narrowly to the Irfan ward in the Cubic Mysore Derby surprisingly performed below par, failing to make the frame, much to the disappointment of the Narredus who are enjoying a good run on the classic scene. 

Akshay Kumar who drew a blank on this day, later failed to score on the pipping hot favourite Eastern Gold in the concluding event, the lower division of the BBMP Cup run over a sprint. A facile last start winner Eastern Gold from Parvati Byramji's yard who shed his maiden status in style found the five to one shot Bharat from the stables of Prasanna Kumar's yard too hot to handle and had to rest content with the second spot. The winner piloted by Vivek shot past the public choice without really extending himself at the distance post and it was all over bar the shouting. Instructor from Warren Singh's yard, fancied sweetly in place did well to finish third ahead of Tesorino who in her attempt to make every post a winning one went out of gas at the top of the straight and only managed to complete the frame. 

The upper division of the event was claimed by the on-money favourite Stellantis confidently piloted by Trevor Patel, back after suffering a fall in Kolkata. Knotty Patton from Azhar Ali's yard who went down fighting to The Gallerytime in his last effort again gained the runner-up and it will pay to support this in-form Azhar trainee next time out hoping that it will prove to be third time lucky for the `General' who has turned `Knotty'.Free To Play  finished third, while Dynamic Force after being favourably placed at the top of the straight failed to make a race of it and finished down the field. 

Spurred by his success on Ranquelino, Sandesh to the relief of the followers of form who lost out big, booted home the even-money favourite Reiko from Prasanna Kumar's yard in the upper division of the Tetrarch Plate run over a distance of 1100 metres. The second in demand at the betting ring, Lockheed from Darius Byramji's yard, who failed to settle early on in the sprint dash finished on well at end but that was just not good enough to stop the public choice from entering the winners' circle. Breeze Bluster caught the eye while finishing a creditable third and is one for the notebook. 

The Irfan Ghatala-trained Days Date successfully made every post a winning one in the lower division of the event. The winner partnerfed by Arvind Kumar showed a clean pair of heels to her dozen rivals, including the overwhelming favourite Martha who failed to even save money in place. Sling Shot from Lokanath's yard followed Days Date home, while the lesser fancied Domina finished third. 

The six to one shot Mega Success from Inayathulla's yard proved too good in the Tungabhadra Plate run over a sprint. Jagadeesh took the winner to the front soon after the nine runners came under the starter's flag and stayed there right till the very end to the delight of his supporters. Infinite Spirit flashed on the scene late to grab the second spot ahead of Star Comet, while the heavily backed The Golden Dream much to the chagrin of the large following failed to make a favourable impression and all the eight-year-old mare did was take sacks of money down the drain. 

Cold Play was one another top fancy from Darius Byramji's stable who bit the dust finishing a tame third in the juvenile event, the Alydar Plate. The 15 to one rank outsider Lena from Pradeep Annaiah's yard piloted in determined fashion by Ashhad Asbar made a winning debut edging out lesser fancied Eleanora from Rajesh Narredu's yard close home. Stablemate Blind Faith who opened second favourite was freely offered at the nourishing odds of (5/1) at end, but had no takers, punters quickly losing faith on  the bred in the purple youngster who was not in the hunt.
