Havana Goodtime (Appu up) winner of the Kelachandra New Millennium Cup being led in by trainer Mr. Ponnappa & owner Mr. Pritham Basappa

Contrary to expectations of a battle royal, Havana Goodtime won the 1400 metres Kelachandra New Millennium Cup, a terms race for four-year olds and over, without coming under threat in the races held on Friday. Favourite Polar Force did not justify the total support that he enjoyed in the ring and the grey gelding seems to have lost his steam after running an eye-catching second behind Berlioz in the early part of the season. His run at Hyderabad was bad and he has followed that with yet another insignificant run. Jockey Appu took Havana Goodtime on a start to finish mission and the daughter of Tejano who was favored by the terms of the race stayed put quite comfortably at the expense of Saratoga Sizzle who was finding out rather late. Polar Force had all the chances but lacked depth. Seasoned campaigner Attorney was expected to be in the thick of things but he could not take a favorable position soon after the start and dropped back and thereafter, never gave any hopes. May be he was outpaced by the fast pace over this seven furlong trip. Noble Excellency recorded a hat-trick of wins when the daughter of Alnasr Alwasheek held on gamely to win from Mount Royale and Allectus who has made a habit of letting down his supporters. Noble Excellency was strongly fancied though the public expectation was that Allectus would halt the former’s winning run as he had recorded a narrow win on the last occasion. That in hindsight was the saving grace because the penalty for the win was manageable and Noble Excellency showed her good fighting qualities with a remarkable stretch run. The lower division of the race saw favourite Romantic Count finally come good and thrash the opposition pointless. Missedent shaped like a winner in the final furlong by taking charge but as is her wont, slowed down close home, enabling Romantic Count to record a smashing win. M P Mahaesh trained Clueless Puzzle recorded an effortless win in the 1200 metres Horanadu Plate. Backed confidently by all and sundry, Clueless Puzzle who raced in the mid-group easily sailed past the front-runners with minimum of fuss, to record a popular win. Favorites reigned supreme in both the divisions of the A P Kothavala Memorial Cup, a race for maiden three-year olds. Finest Moment held on grimly from Aashirwad and Diomedes who were closing in on the front-runner at the finish. Make a note of Diomedes who is ready to strike. In the lower division of the race, Glorious Breaker prevailed over Royal Assault who should be a force to reckon with after this forward run. Incidentally, both the divisions of the Amathos Plate went the way of Kunigal bred horses owned by beer baron Dr Vijay Mallya. Crown Charter appreciated the step up in distance to down the hopes of favourite Langley Wood who was the betting rage. Syrian Spice, who was knocking on the doors of success, duly obliged in the lower division. There was inspired support for Puttanna trained Global Agenda but Krishnan was unable to extract anything significant from the favourite who was found wanting. This combination has failed to deliver more often not.
