The Warriors, winners of the BTC T-10 cricket tournament
The Warriors (members of the Club) emerged champs in the annual BTC T-10 cricket bash, comfortably defeating the Tornadoes (BTC staff) by a big margin of 65-runs in the final. The Jockeys XI, winners of the two earlier editions of the tournament were knocked out by the Tornadoes led by Roshan. The Jockeys looked rusty and under lights it proved to be a different ball game for the `knights' who found the going tough against the two vastly improved sides.
After Ishaan Yathiraj (29) played a stellar role in the first game, the dashing southpaw, Dhruv Devatha smashed a dozen sixes in his unbeaten match-winning knock (86) in the final. The sublime effort detonated the Tornadoes. Dhruv kept the Warriors ahead all through the innings and the 65-run partnership for the seventh-wicket between the top scorer and the skipper Nikhil Yathiraj in the final three overs is what sealed the deal, the Warriors posting an imposing score (140/6) in the allotted 10 overs. In the chase, the Tornadoes batsmen led by skipper Roshan found the going tough against the rival bowlers who picked up wickets at regular intervals and half-way home, it was clear that Warriors would emerge deserving winners. And in what at end turned out to be a one-sided contest, Nikhil's brigade restricted their rivals to a paltry score of 75, a good 65-runs short of the winning target.
Delighted with the result, Nikhil disclosed that his boys performed their roles creditably and Dhruv was amazing in the final. "He was hitting the balls long and it simply was a match-winning knock," said Nikhil adding that Varun Muthappa 's spell with the ball was outstanding.
The losing captain Roshan revealed that his boys playing the third straight game understandably were a trifle tired and up against a stand out performance from Dhruv found it hard to make a match of it.
Well all said and done, the winners looked a determined lot, ready for combat and win the two battles before standing tall at the podium. "It was our preparation which instilled the confidence in the team and the boys played their part," signed off Nikhil.
Brief scores: Warriors: 140 for 6 in 10 overs (Dhruv Devatha 86 n.o, Nikhil Yathiraj 21 n.o.), bt Tornadoes: 75 for 8 in 10 overs (Ranjith 30, Karthik 19, (Varun Muthappa 2/4, Dhruv Devatha 2/13, Nikhil Yathiraj 2/15).
