Five wins from six starts, more importantly the victories recorded at three different centres before this summer confirmed that Mayne Magic is a quality performer and he added one more to his kitty, while maintaining his winning streak on Saturday. 

Competing in the feature event, the Dharmaprakasha LS Venkaji Rao Memorial Trophy, the Kishan Thomas trainee garnered the maximum support on the strength of his three straight wins in winter and the pleasing effort in a mock race. And the game galloper produced another outstanding effort in the hands of leading pro Antony Raj to the delight of his trainer, who it must be mentioned has done well to keep him in the winners' circle. In line for a hat-trick, All Attraction from the stables of Lokanath and the Pesi Shroff-trained Arkadian were tipped to stop the winning run of the public choice, but the talented Mayne Magic again proved that he has the ability to succeed at the top level. While All Attraction found the going tough in this company. Arkadian produced a satisfactory effort, finishing a suggestive third behind Secret Saint from Bharath Singh's yard and it will not be long before this Pesi ward earns his cornbill in the weeks ahead. 

The Satish Narredu schooled Champions Way piloted by leading pro Suraj Narredu and the Hyderabad hopeful Star Of Night from the stables of Sequeira topped the betting board in the Chettinad Stud Plate run over a mile. Most knowledgeable were of the view that this `Jodi' was safe, but in this game nothing is safe till it hits the wire first and in this case, the `Jodi' to the delight of the bookmakers went out of the window, the moment the 12 to one shot Casteel, stablemate of the public choice Champions Way partnered by five-kilo claimer Ramswarup produced a winning gallop in the final furlong to edge out Champions Way. Neeraj Rawal, the rider of the third-placed Star Of Night lodged a frivolous objection,protesting that Casteel had bumped Star Of Night and took him out in the final furlong. The stipes and stewards, not impressed pointed out rightly that Star Of Night was a beaten horse even before Casteel powered through in the middle to gain control and emerge a deserving winner. The fact that Casteel over a mile finished on strongly to score without a whip only suggests that this Satish Narredu trainee is on top of his game and it will pay to again support him over longer trips in the months ahead. 

The Aman Hussain-trained Divine Star opened the favourite in the Marilingaiah Memorial Trophy run over a sprint before money came pouring in on the Sulaiman Attaollahi schooled Aquastic partnered by Suraj Narredu in the absence of Akshay Kumar. Aquastic didn't really make a favourable impression and much to the disappointment of her supporters finished a tame third, while Divine Star made every post a winning one in the hands of Trevor Patel. The consistent Walking Thunder from the stables of Hyderabad pro Deshmukh produced another good effort to gain the runner-up, while Grenoble from Vijay Singh's yard completed the frame. 

Stentorian and Star Honour from Satish Narredu's yard were tipped to dominate the finish of the concluding event, the upper division of the Romantic Dance Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs and the two justified their top billing, finishing 1-2 to the delight of Satish Narredu. Stentorian piloted by Shezad Khan produced a sparkling gallop along the rails to seal the deal close home. Star Honour, who at one stage looked set to score drifted out at the all-important end and this provided Stentorian the chance to overhaul the leader and Shezad and Stentorian made capital use of the opportunity to stand tall at the podium. 

Adelanto from Rajesh Babu's yard was heavily backed in the lower division of the Romantic Dance Plate. In fact the Padmanabhan schooled Amazing Stride opened the favourite before the supporters of Adelanto went bang-bang in the betting ring and soon Adelanto was the overwhelming favourite quoted at (13/10), while Amazing Stride drifted out to (5/2). Umesh astride the Padmanabhan ward after jumping out well kept Amazing Stride in a forward position all through the seven furlongs trip before he setalight his mount at the top of the straight and the Padmanabhan ward streaked ahead to put the race to bed in the final furlong. Vibrant Queen followed the winner home ahead of Adelanto who raced in patches and it was clear before the race came on a boil that the heavily fancied contestant had missed the bus. 

On the strength of his impressive showing in Mumbai, Juracan from the stables of Chouhan was supported strongly in the World No-Tobacco Day Plate, but the on-money favourite much to the chagrin of the followers of form burst his blood vessels during the race and finished down the field. Second in demand at the betting ring, Sunshine from the stables of Irfan Ghatala made a smart winning debut, covering acres of ground in the `run in' home to emerge an impressive winner. Saqlain back plying his whip this summer produced a calm and collected effort on the winner, who is certain to graduate to a higher league in the months ahead. 

Trainer Faraz pulled off a successful coup on El Alamein in the opening event, the Classical Act Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. Backed down from (6/1) to (3/1) El Alamein in the hands of Bhawani Singh produced an astounding gallop to zoom past Embosom who was shaping like a winner before El Alamein justified the confidence of his supporters in emphatic fashion. The favourite Raffles, who opened at (90/100) in the betting ring before drifting out to (16/10), in his effort to make every post a winning one flopped badly and finished a poor fourth. It was clear from the price increasing on Raffles that the Dominic ward was not seriously in it to win it.
