Form played true and the railbirds enjoyed a good run under a cool sun on the eve of the Colts Championship Stakes on Saturday.  Leading trainer Darius Byramji stole the limelight leading in three winners including Ranquelino, the winner of the Chief Justice's Cup, while Sulaiman Attaollahi and the two in-form `Knights' Trevor Patel and G Vivek recorded a double apiece. 

Delighted with the results obtained and the fact that the first two classics  attracted big fields, Mahesh Medappa, steward of the club, disclosed that good competitive cards framed last couple of weeks have provided a reason to smile for the punters, a good number of fancied contestants nailing bold colours to the mast. "Today half-dozen favourites and one well supported second fancy Ranquelino provided a big reason to smile for the railbirds and hopefully this trend will continue in the weeks ahead,' said Mahesh adding that now that the season has hit the peak the trainers will enter the best stock under their care in their effort to grab the pound of flesh. 

Darius opened his account through the overwhelming favourite Multisided, who despite losing more than four lengths at the start in a six furlongs event powered through in the hands of a panicky AR Pradeep, who had pressed the panic button immediately after the start and later struggled to get past Flamingo Dream despite Multisided travelling strongly towards the finish. Well the drama ended on a happy note for the supporters of the public choice, Multisided gaining a `neck' verdict. 

Back after his surprisingly dismal effort in the Indian Turf Invitation Cup at Chennai in March, the Indian Derby winner Ranquelino, it appeared was not fully fit, walking out to compete in the Chief Justice's Cup run over a distance of nine furlongs. Popular owner Ashok Ranpise confirmed that revealing that Ranquelino was only 75 percent fit going into a race after four months. But that didn't stop most old hats in the game from putting a few chips on the triple classic winner. They simply trusted his class and class proved decisive at end. The fact that the heavily supported Supernatural from champion trainer Pesi Shroff's yard planted at the gates made it easy for Ranquelino is debatable taking into account that the star performer won in emphatic fashion. Now that Ranquelino is back in business the big plums including the Maharaja's Cup is at his mercy. 

In line for a treble, Darius sent out the joint favourite Doncaster Belle spot on for the Dupont Plate and the vastly improved filly donkey-licked her 11 rivals including the other prime contender Final Call from the stables of Padmanabhan. Doncaster Belle on the strength of this outstanding effort is set to provide an encore and it will also pay to persevere with Final Call, who will prove to be a different proposition after this run under her belt. 

A smart last start winner, Darrion was again fancied strongly to score in the Prabalo Plate run over a sprint. The favourite confidently piloted by the in-form pro G Vivek hit the front and successfully made every post a winning one pegging back the belated effort of rank outsider Silver Quest and the second in demand at the betting ring, Perfect Attitude from trainer Arjun Manglorkar's yard. 

Vivek earlier booted home Ice Of Fire to a convincing victory in the D Kumar Siddanna Memorial Trophy run over a distance of seven furlongs. The well-backed winner who looked a picture of fitness at the paddock parade shot through a gap on the rails to steal a march a furlong from home before putting the race to bed in the final 100 metres. Aquastic from Sulaiman's yard was seen finishing on purposefully at end to gain the runner-up berth ahead of the last start winner Challenge Accepted, while the second in demand at the betting ring, Perfect Legend failed to display his true potential, clearly needing this run.

In a never-say-die effort, top pro Trevor Patel packed punch on the favourite Mahler who covered acres of ground in the final two furlongs to beat the well supported Neptune at the post in the Sir M Visvesvaraya Memorial Cup run over a distance of seven furlongs. Sandesh guiding the fortunes of Neptune from Karthik Ganapathy's yard pushed the second in demand at the betting ring to the front soon after the field settled down and called the shots a couple of metres to the finish before Mahler and Trevor stunned him at the shadow of the winning post. The debutant Schoenberg from trainer Vijay Singh's yard caught the eye finishing a creditable third and it will pay to support this son of Leitir Mor when saddled next. 

Trevor earlier had it easy on the Sulaiman schooled Your Unforgettable, who made a impressive winning debut in the opening event, the lower division of the International Day Of Yoga Plate run over a sprint. The winner appears a goodtype and more will be heard of him in time to come. The runner-up Enola Holmes from the stables of Neil Darashah after this creditable effort is certain to shed her maiden status when next saddled. 

The upper division of the event produced the only shock result of the day, the Irfan Ghatala schooled Sapporo making a winning debut in the absence of the public rage Efficacy, who was withdrawn at the starting gate. Sapporo partnered by Arvind Kumar displayed good pluck while getting the better of the second favourite Ilia at the distance post and then pegged back the Warren Singh-trained Aces Up, who was strongly fancied in place by the Warren camp.
