The classy Sovereign King confirmed that he is a very exciting star on the classic scene and his trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha, a shooting star on the racing galaxy. And no forgetting the Mukteshwar Stud Farm, consistently producing star performers and keeping pace with the best breeding units in the Indian racing circuit. Sovereign King put the indicator on the moment he trounced the Poonawalla Multi-Million winner Big Bay and the Champion filly Fynbos in his last start. The indicator light was still blinking, indicating that the star performer was on the high road and precisely in 96.7 seconds the `King' lowered the sword on his 15 rivals tn a fierce combat and at end it proved to be Singh Is King. 

Despite the fact that he was not favourably drawn in the big 16-horse field vying for honours in the Colts Championship Stakes, the second classic of the season, most pundits were of the view that Sovereign King would be hard to down on the strength of his true-blue victory in his maiden start at this centre. The followers of form and the bookmakers too endorsed the view and Sovereign King topped the betting board in the classic contest.
 
Nohoper Charismatic, Circle Of Dreams and Dedication set the early pace before Red Bishop and Prokofiev drawn (15) piloted by Mukesh Kumar soon joined the three leaders and made the front group, while Stormy Sea, Big Bay and Sovereign King chose to sit back and bide time in this hotly contested classic, all 16 in the fray in no mood to give an inch to the other. The Prasanna Kumar schooled Prokofiev hit the front soon after the three leaders shot their bolt at the trop of the straight before the Jadhav-trained Stormy Sea stormed into contention with Sovereign King and Red Bishop charging up to hunt the leading pair in the final furlong. The four in a cavalry charge flashed past the post and in a humdinger, Sovereign King and Antony Raj gained the day, a `neck' separating him from Stormy Sea who in turn finished a `nose' ahead of Red Bishop, while Prokofiev was only a `head' behind the Pesi Shroff ward. It was a cracking contest and what pleased most was there were no hard luck stories. The Mumbai raider was a worthy winner and it is time to salute the `King'  uncork the bubbly and join in the bhangra all through the week.
 
Antony Raj who had booted home another Mumbai hopeful Golden Thunder in the principal added attraction, the Civil Service Cup was at his best, keeping his cool and staying focused amidst the pushing and jostling all the way up the straight and the moment he hit the straight he in determined fashion packed punch and Sovereign King responding splendidly to his master's call produced his best to emerge the best of his age in a fire to the wire finish. All credit to Adhirajsingh Jodha who sent out the winner spot on for the big event and the result catapulted Jodha into the Hall Of Fame. 

In the Civil Service Cup, Arkadian from Pesi Shroff's yard garnered the maximum support, but the public choice piloted by young Saqlain met a tartar in Golden Thunder from Karthik Ganapathy's yard, who surprised most making his first appearance this season a winning one. Cape Wickham too stunned the followers of form finishing third ahead of Eagle Day, stablemate of the overwhelming favourite Arkadian. 

Veteran trainer Dominic, who saddled three favourites in the eight-event card on the classic day saw two of his fancied contestants bite the dust, Satin Lass and Noble Cause finishing third before the well supported Defence Counsel in the hands of Trevor, who partnered the two losers helped the Dominic camp recoup their losses. Satin Lass in the opening event, the Guindy Plate run over a sprint was hammered down in the betting ring, ending an on-money favourite, but in her attempt to make every post a winning one the public choice went out of gas in the final 100 metres and finished third behind the seven to one shot Mystic Charm from MR Singh's yard and the surprise runner-up Slice Of Luck.
 
Competing in the lower division of the Bergamo Plate, Noble Cause garnered maximum support, but he too like Satin Lass failed to justify his rating and ranking  and much to the disappointment of his supporters finished a tame third. A medium of a good gamble, Glorious Spectre fancied sweetly and quietly by the Neil Devaney camp edged out the late finishing Felisa by the shortest of margins to the delight of his supporters who smiled all the way to the cash counters of the bookies with a spring in their stride.

In the upper division of the event, Defence Counsel saved the day for Dominic, the favourite making every post a winning one in convincing style. Springsteen followed the winner home ahead of the Aravind Ganapathy-trained Flash, while Small Dreams from young Vishesh's yard partnered by apprentice jockey Pavan, fancied strongly in place missed the bus. 

In the Pronto Pronto Plate for maiden three-year-old run over a mile, the Bharath Singh-trained Andre' and Einaudi from the stables of Sulaiman on the strength of their impressive showing in their last head-to head clash were fancied most. The former after being favourably placed at the top of the straight lacked the gas in the tank to make a race of it, while the latter who lost more than five lengths at the start was seen finishing on fastest at end to finish fourth behind Andre' a `nose' separating the two. Ten to one shot Kiss Of Grey from Satish Narredu's yard made every post a winning one in the confident hands of Yash Narredu, while the Irfan-trained Cigar Galaxy did well to gain the runner-up spot. The lesser fancied Knight Regent from the stables of Hyderabad pro Deshmukh was withdrawn before the seven-horse field came under the starter's flag. 

The Neil Darashah schooled Galway Girl dropped the biggest bombshell bolting out in front and establishing more than 20 lengths advantage all the way up in the nine furlong contest for the Noble Prince Plate. Turning for home it was clear that none of 10 rivals of Galway Girl would catch her taking into account that the `Girl' kept going and she joyfully cruised home  much to the chagrin of the followers of form who fancied the two top fancies Monterio and art Of Romance who finished second ahead of Monterio. 

The Prasanna Kumar schooled Rock Bank claimed the final event, the Borsalino Plate run over a mile to the delight of the railbirds who recovered major portion of their losses through the three favourites at end, Sovereign King, Defense Counsel and Rock Bank.
