Alabaster Dazzles, but Favourites Fall Like Nine Pins

Alabaster proved to be too good in the KR Rajendra Singh Memorial cup, the main event at the Delhi races on Tuesday. The on-going leading trainer Ishwar Singh Parmar added two more races to his kitty by getting the services of the visiting jockey Chhotu Singh Jodha. As a whole, the day saw favourites falling like nine pins in the card of six races. Zulfiqar Khan-trained Alabaster, who had been maintaining consistency by finishing third over a couple of occasions, found the trip of five furlongs suitable for his strides. The son of Sunday Doubt and Simply Sensual's tactics of breaking out quickly uprooted the chances of the favourite Dazzling Cracker, who laboured hard to turn the table before keeping Master Prince away by half-a-length for the runner-up berth.

The duo has the calibre to shed maiden status before the closure of the season. God's Majesty, Far Superior and Captain Confident, who finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively, bear watching. Haider Ali Khan's Real Scotch, who looked fittest in the paddock, displayed an amazing turn of foot while making every post a winning one in the upper division of The Jerwah Plate. Ironically, the distance of six furlongs was not her forte but the way Rajinder handled the aged mare of Classic Tale and Bottle Of Whiskey was tremendous. The market-fancied Gangajal never posed herself as the main threat and was only able to occupy the seat behind the winner inside the distance from the tiring Varun. Golden Gun, who ran fourth, should soon strike.

The lower division of the Plate saw Stunning View (Warrshan-Anodyne) returning to the winning block after a gap of couple of seasons. El Salvador, who was seen drifting out alarmingly, finally occupied the third place behind Silver Flames, and is knocking at the door. Manbir Singh-trained Sultan Mirza (Glory Of Dancer-Compulsory) managed to hold Mystic Miracle off by a whisker in The Road To Glory Plate. The market mover Supreme Victory, who belongs to A Khan, was alerted to the task only at the eleventh hour and finished a close third. Another favourite from the stable of Aleem, Rock It made the racegoers cry in The Northern Troika Plate. The son of Ontario and Dominique was in for a hat-trick but the prices going haywire cleared the picture. Spot Hit was sent out to achieve success by leading from the front, but Master Blaster (Hymn-Velocette) landed a telling blow to seal the fate of the class 2 event.

The run of Rock It, who finished an easy third, is best ignored. The 2000 Guineas winner Master Blaster should now eye for the top-class meet. Magan Singh's Flying Majesty (Ansbach-Majestic Bay) left the field dancing to her tune in a wire to wire attempt in the 1100-metre Evernsky Plate. Fearlessnegotiator warmed up late for the second position. Grey Dancer caught the attention by displacing Dream Debut for the third position.
