Trainer Ranjeet Shinde (Deputising trainer S S Attaollahi) leading Splendid Dream (Shreyas Singh Up), winner of The F K Irani Memorial Million
Form continued to play true at Mysore and the racing buffs at this centre again enjoyed the better of exchanges all through the sunny afternoon on Friday before cashing big on the final two winners, Knotty Blush and Tolkien after the big strike on The Golden Sunrise. After a lung-opener, The Golden Sunrise from Ranjeet's yard looked fit and well and was rightly fancied by the connections to come up trumps in the Police Trophy run over a sprint and the topweighted contestant confidently piloted by promising apprentice jockey Abhishek Matre produced a sublime effort to romp home without really breaking a sweat. In a cluster finish for minor places, Falcon Fury from Ganesh' yard gained the runner-up berth ahead of Court Jester, while the lesser fancied Creative Girl partnered by leading pro Antony Raj after calling the shots for most part of sprint, failed to save money in place.
The Purshotham-trained Knotty Blush competing in the MW Chinnappa Memorial Trophy was heavily supported, backed down from (12/10) to (60/100) despite the fact that the Dominic-trainer Jersey King had his fair share of supporters. The on-money favourite powerfully piloted by Sai Kumar in a thrilling finish edged out Jersey King and the long shot Serrano partnered by Hindu Singh. While Sai Kumar excelled on the winner, Antony Raj guiding the fortunes of the late finishing Jersey King blotted his book failing to pack punch at the all-important end and this cost the Dominic camp dear. Local challenger Serrano impressed most matching strides with the two Bangalore raiders all through the six furlongs trip and it will not be long before this Ruban trainee earns his cornbill this season.
Fresh from his success at the Bangalore summer season, Tolkien from the stables of Darius Byramji's yard looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring and the pipping hot favourites detonated his 11 rivals including Supreme Success from Lokanath Gowda's yard, who gained good support following his impressive showing in his last essay at Bangalore. While Tolkien travelled like the big boss all through the backstretch, Supreme Success in the hands of Akshay Kumar struggled to keep pace and finally laboured hard to complete the frame. Tolkien won with a widening margin of more than eight lengths and this vastly improved performer will now be looking to cross swords with higher rated classic hopefuls in the weeks ahead. The Purshottam schooled Acantha finished a creditable second behind Tolkien and is one for the notebook.
The Aravind Ganapathy-trained Magnetar was touted a `moral cetainty' in the FK Irani Memorial Million run over a distance of six furlongs, but the public rage piloted by Akshay Kumar failed in his mission to resume his winning ways, failing to match strides with the last start winner Splendid Dream from the stables of Sulaiman Attaollahi. The winner, who made a winning debut last week produced a much better effort clearly indicating that he had improved after his debut, while Magnetar it appears is still not at his best. Splendid Dream after two splendid back-to-back wins is set to complete a hat-trick of wins when next saddled.
The Dominic schooled Raffles, who has failed to carry the public purse to victory on more than a couple of occasions was again fancied most in the Secunderabad Plate and Raffles partnered by Alex Rozario, who booted home Noble Cause from Dominc's yard on Thursday, quickly found out that this cup of tea neither was sweet or had the `Noble' aroma and halfway home it was clear that Dominic ward would find it tough to make a race of it and that was soon confirmed the moment Raffles ran out of steam and finished down the field. Rank outsider Lead Singer from Ashwin Rao's yard dropped a bombshell coming up tops n the hands of Prabhakaran edging out NRI Gold fancied strongly in place.
In the opening event, the Paddock Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs, Warrior Woman from leading trainer Rakesh garnered the maximum support, but she met a tartar in Rich Strike another unfancied winner from Ashwin's yard, who upset the applecart of the public choice, much to the disappointment of the followers of form looking to start the day on a winning note. Pette's Choice finished third ahead of lesser fancied Seductive, while the Aditya-trained D Admiral was not in the hunt.
