Donald Netto-trained Nonpariel gave a gutsy performance enroute his sixth straight success in the Turf Authorities of India Cup, the supporting event on the Derby Day. P. Sai Kumar-ridden Diablo took a smart jump from the barriers to head the twelve-horse field and almost succeeded in his start to finish mission. The top-weighted favourite Nonpariel, who was entrusted to apprentice Sonu Kumar, looked to be in trouble when trying to catch Diablo in the straight. But once he was switched towards the rails in the final furlong, Nonpariel (Dali – Bravia) accelerated well to thwart Diablo in the last hundred metres and secure a length verdict. Second favourite Uchchaihshravas warmed up late to finish third ahead of Huntingdon.      
 
Sai Kumar, however, had a winning brace through Black Dust and Cherie Chevalier, both hailing from KSV Prasad Raju’s yard. Black Dust raced well up with the pace alongside Sunny Day as Challenger showed the way to the field. Black Dust (Air Support – Angel Dust) assumed command at the top of the home stretch and pulled away from the pack despite the threat posed by Misty Night inside the last furlong and half. Onslaught took the second position after Misty Night faded out with Sunny Day running fourth. Favourite Miss Smiley Angel languished in the rear and appeared to be in distress after entering the straight. She finished dead last, a distance behind Challenger.
 
Cherie Chevalier, who came across one better in Your Unforgettable in the Golconda Juvenile Million in August last, made amends in the Royal Calcutta Turf Club Cup (Div-II), the day’s concluding event. Favourite Timeless Vision shared the lead initially with Pacific Heights and Runlikethewind till the heads turned for home whilst Cherie Chevalier graced the wrong end of the field. A. Sandesh spurred Timeless Vision to take charge of the running in the final run-in but found NRI Sport inching closer. The pair ahead were left stunned by Cherie Chevalier (Leitir Mor – Mauna Kea), who unleashed a terrific run when shown the daylight by Sai Kumar on entering the straight. Prasad Raju’s ward won sparing three lengths to NRI Sport, who was almost an identical distance ahead of Timeless Vision whilst Dyanoosh finished close behind.
 
Miss Maya, who had previously seen the winner’s enclosure on the Derby Day last year, claimed the Royal Calcutta Turf Club Cup (Div-I). Gaurav Singh-ridden favourite High Speed Dive wore down leader Calistoga in the final furlong but failed to sustain the advantage as Sonu Kumar brought Neelesh Rawal-groomed Miss Maya with a flourishing run towards the end of the six-furlong sprint and prevailed over High Speed Dive. Star Forever came from way behind to run third while Exclusive Black ended fourth in a three-way finish for the minor places.
 
The strong finishing effort from G. Vivek saw favourite Petaluma score a narrow victory in the Royal Western India Turf Club Cup. Leo D’Silva-saddled Petaluma came well from the widest stall but lacked initial speed as she raced in the mid-bunch behind Dashing Charm, who sprinted ahead and held the advantage till the last furlong before being covered by a bunch of horses. Arion One and Lifes Journey were fighting it out close home when Petaluma (Deauville – Peninsula) came with a strong run to overwhelm the duo. Arion One was the runner-up ahead of Emerald Touch, who came with a late charge to deny Lifes Journey the third spot.
 
Magan Singh Parmar-trained Safala defied the tough penalty of 7.5kg she incurred for her maiden success earlier this season and went on to register an encore in the Mysore Race Club Cup. Trevor-piloted on-money favourite Turiya came with a powerful run to divest Aditya of his lead soon after passing the two-furlong marker but was soon challenged by Safala. Mukesh Kumar gave Safala (Dali – Sheer Elation) a resolute ride and snuffed out Turiya’s resistance in the final hundred metres. NRI Range finished in the money ahead of Trust Me.
 
Alcahol Free from B. Mukesh Kumar’s stables found herself in her own age group and with that an opportunity to pull off another coup for her connections. Her victim on this occasion was Take A Breath, who flopped for the second successive time. Take A Breath was taken on a wire-to-wire mission over the mile journey by Sonu Kumar while Sk. Rafique rode Alcahol Free well off the pace. Rafique produced Alcahol Free (Tenth Star – Amber Valley)  four horses wide into the straight and made rapid progress to catch Take A Breath, who was clearly out of breath, inside the last furlong. Nkalanzinzi ran a faraway third with Sadiya taking the fourth place.

The four-year old filly NRI Star tasted her maiden success at the start of the day as Trevor steered her to a smashing victory. Srinivas Reddy-schooled NRI Star (Saamidd – Fabulousday) tracked leader Pinatubo into the straight and easily overhauled the latter when Trevor released the brakes. Aos Si managed to finish second with Deccan Ranger and Bold Indian following her home. Rani Ruckus was heavily backed but she lost all her chances at the gates itself and struggled throughout before finishing sixth ahead of a tiring lot.
