On a day form played true, the judiciously prepared Yukikaze from champion trainer Rakesh's yard proved too good for his 11 rivals including the overwhelming favourite Power Of Gold in the Chief Minister's Cup, the plum event run over a mile. The winner confidently piloted by the in-form Antony Raj making an appearance after a four-month long lay-off pulled the plug and fused out the opposition a furlong from home. Yukikaze on the strength of this brilliant performance is set to provide an encore. The ten to one long shot One Nation gained the runner-up berth ahead of another outsider Assurances, while the smart last start winner Power Of Gold from the stables of Darius Byramji in his attempt to make every post a winning one, shot his bolt at the top of the straight and failed to even save money in place. Akshay Kumar who, partnered the public choice, it is clear is struggling to boot home winners at this centre this season, only a solitary success on Power Of Gold in his last essay from his dozen attempts including half-dozen fancied contestants so far this season.
Failed favourite in his last essay, the Monnappa schooled Ocean came good in the Hotel RRR Trophy, making every post a winning one in the six furlongs trip. Apprentice jockey Faiz, who booted home Ocean in his successful first attempt this season before he lost to Falcon Fury in his last start, resumed his winning ways to the delight of the Monnappa camp, who were bullish of her chances against 11 rivals. Natural Tornado charged home late on the scene to gain the runner-up berth ahead of the five to one shot Grace, while the Pillay-trained Sherpa completed the frame.
Earlier, the Ganesh camp pulled off a successful coup on the advantageously placed in at the scales, Authentic Bell in the upper diision of the Dupont Plate run over a sprint. The winner piloted by Imran was heavily backed from (4/1) to (6/4), while the Bipin Salvi-trained Magic Circle after opening at (80/100) in the bookmakers ring shifted out to (14/10). Magic Circle partnered by Sai Kiran after travelling in a forward position for most part of the six furlong journey hit the front 300 metres from home and looked set to score before Imran packed punch on Authentic Belle and the Ganesh ward responding brilliantly zipped past Magic Circle to the delight of her supporters. Golden Bird from Moses' yard, who was sweetly fancied in place produced a late dash to finish third ahead of Maybury. Authentic Belle on the strength of this performance is certain to add one more win to her kitty, when saddled next.
The lower division of the event was claimed by the Bipin Salvi schooled Sea Of Adventure confidently piloted by the promising five-kilo claimer Asirvatham. The apprentice jockey after gaining a good position at the start tracked the leader Just Blues who in his attempt to make every post a winning one found the on-money favourite Sea Of Adventure too hot to handle and had to rest content with the runner-up berth. Lesser fancied Anushtubha piloted by leading saddle artiste Antony Raj finished a creditable third and it will not be long before this Rakesh ward earns her winning bracket.
The public rage Goddess Of War shed her maiden status winning the Gool & Soli Poonawalla Memorial Trophy in convincing fashion. The half-money favourite, who looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring partnered by Antony Raj assumed command approaching the distance post and quickly put the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Vibrant Queen after calling the shots for most part of the seven furlongs trip hung on gamely after surrendering the lead to a superior contestant and gained the runner-up berth ahead of Silver Quest, while Darrington in the hands of Arvind Kumar raced in paches and only managed to complete the frame.
On the strength of his facile victory in his last start, Vayu from the stables of Joseph Awale garnered the maximum support in the concluding event, the Coorg Plate run over 1100M dash. The strongly fancied even-money favourite in the hands of the promising apprentice Aleemuddin hit the front and called the shots for most part of the sprint dash before the second in demand at the betting ring, Klimit piloted by Sai Kiran flew in the final 100 metres to snatch victory at the shadow of the winning post. Maple Leaf too was not too far behind and it will pay to follow and support this Vivesh Naik trainee, when saddled next.
