After coming across one better in both her previous outings, Bee Magical from the yards of Imtiaz Sait found her mojo back on Friday. Settled in the mid-bunch by Neeraj Rawal after Jackson, Manor House and Sovereign Master were quickly up in the front after the gates opened and had Aperol and Ghirardelli in close attendance. When the field straightened for home, Aperol gained the upper hand and led briefly before Bee Magical got going in the last furlong and eventually overwhelmed him. Neeraj then gave Bee Magical (Moonlight Magic – Bee Quick) a couple of backhanders to stretch out and keep both Lord Eric and Abhicandra at bay. Aperol ran fourth.
 
Prasanna Kumar’s ward Hazel scored the most emphatic victory of the day as the filly graduated from the maiden ranks in the lower division of To The Manor Born Plate. Fitted with Sheep Skin Cheek Pieces, Hazel took a fluent jump on this occasion to seize control of the running with Desert Charm and Jackson in pursuit. No sooner G. Vivek loosened his grip on the reins, Hazel surged clear of her rivals, mocking them on the way as her jockey peeped over shoulders a furlong away from home. Jackson took the second spot ahead of Magical Moments who ran to finish third ahead of Desert Charm.
 
The first division of the To The Manor Born Plate saw Himmat Singh-saddled Semurg stunning her opponents with a terrific run down the straight. With Claude being withdrawn on veterinary grounds on the eve of the race, the betting centred around Machiavellian and Majesticus. Machiavellian, who was racing within striking distance of American Eagle till the final bend, was spurred into the lead but failed to sustain as Semurg came charging at him. Semurg raced in the rear till the turn but made steady progress when alerted by her rider in the home stretch. Amyn Merchant-ridden Semurg (Phoenix Tower – Maxine) soon joined the issue with the fancied pair ahead and overpowered them both inside the last furlong. The 15 to 1 longshot won by four lengths over Machiavellian, who ended two lengths clear of Magical Moments whilst Lara ran an identical distance in the fourth berth.
 
Subhag Singh-groomed Looking Like A Wow was another runner, who won against run of expectations. The colt, who ran a mile and half about twelve days ago, was neglected in the betting market which reflected a bullish trend in favour of Exciting and Little John, who were both in the reckoning in the final lap of the race. However, Looking Like A Wow, who was entrusted to apprentice Ramswarup, raced well up with the pace alongside Little John and Vincero as Saseka called the early shots while Exciting lay close behind. Saseka brought the field into the straight and just when Antony Raj astride Little John attempted to tackle the leader, Looking Like A Wow slipped through the shortest way home. Little John was unable to find his rhythm and same was the case with Vivek-piloted Exciting as both failed to raise a fluent gallop when Looking Like A Wow (Dreamfield – Fly With The Wind) turned on the heat. The bay colt won by a length and quarter whilst Exciting snatched the second place from Little John on the wire by neck and a similar distance behind ended late finishing Allez L’etoile.
 
Foxy achieved an encore by defying the penalty incurred for the maiden success in the Maddox, a handicap event run over a five-furlong scurry. Pitted against a mediocre lot, Behram Cama-schooled Foxy was backed to the exclusion of her seven rivals and jockey A. Sandesh steered her to an easy win. Sandesh allowed Rafael to show the way to the field in the early stages and got busy in the straight. Given the fact that Foxy (Surfrider – Lorraine) was conceding weight to her rivals, Sandesh had to push her vigorously when overhauling Rafael following which she skipped away for a convincing win over Majestic Warrior, Viennoise and Rafael. Second favourite Akitania raced in the front bunch till the final bend and receded thereafter to end down the field.
 
Narendra Lagad-trained Come September, who struggled in her previous effort over six-furlongs, seemed to have relished the mile trip for the Shamu Chavan Salver (Div-II). Absolute Gorgeous made the initial running while Come September raced behind the pack of six ahead and made her move when the field entered the final run-in. Meanwhile, favourite Duesenberg had made steady improvement along the way to tackle Absolute Gorgeous and Sands of Dubai, the pair which was racing ahead. Just when Umesh-partnered Dusenberg appeared poised to take charge, Mustakim Alam brought Come September (Gusto – Epsilon Orionis) with a flourishing run and rode him plain hands and heels to take toll of the favourite close home. A length separated the two at the wire while Sands of Dubai was a distant third, a neck ahead of Royal Champ.
 
Lagad and Mustakim were later associated with the success of Samson in the concluding event of the day. While the opposition looked feeble and lacked any worthwhile form to have a say in the race, Samson received enthusiastic support in the betting ring in anticipation of him improving over his previous run. Samson did not disappoint his followers and ran true to their expectations. Mustakim was unwilling to spend his mount’s energy early into the race hence settled Samson behind Celestina and Windborne and waited for an opportunity to pounce upon them. That opportunity presented itself in the last furlong when Windborne overtook Celestina and tried to streak clear of her rivals. However, Samson (Excellent Art – Choose) swooped down on Windborne no sooner Mustakim pressed the trigger and the bay gelding shot ahead to taste his maiden victory. Menjou’s Moustache took the runner-up spot whilst We Still Believe made it to the third berth ahead of Windborne.
 
The day’s curtain raiser, the AJ Wadia Plate, was a straight fight between Yuletide and Lion King, who was running on relegation to the lowest class. Shazaan Shah-saddled Lion King (Win Legend – Sunshine Nell) went straight down to business as the gates opened for the seven-furlong event and won almost untroubled though Umesh had to give him some reminders before he was home and dry. Yuletide ended second after going in futile chase of the winner in the straight whilst Malboro Man finished third ahead of Anaira.
