Trainer B R Reddy leading Black Eagle (Aleemuddin Up), winner of The Hilliard Cup
Despite drifting out in the straight, B Rajender Reddy’s Black Eagle ( Excellent Art - Classic Sky) kicked on merrily in the final furlong to stave off a strong challenge from course favourite Misty who was receiving 10kg from the winner. Apprentice Aleemuddin made the six-furlong sprint for the Hilliard Cup a start-to-finish affair. The trainer commented later that he was never worried as he had got the better of a similar field on the last day of the monsoon meet.
The fan-following of the Narredu family at this centre is quite considerable and they were aptly rewarded this day with a lucrative double featuring Gold Empire and Eleanora – both trained by Rajesh and ridden by Yash. Gold Empire lost quite a bit of ground at the start of the seven furlong race for The Aloritz Cup and Yash did well to let him settle down in the rear of the field. After heads turned for home, the dark bay gelding by Speaking Of Which out of Goldie’s Pet gradually changed gears and moved with raking strides in the final furlong to overhaul the course favourite Polka Dot in the straight close home.
Utilising the inside draw to good effect in the day’s final event, Yash took the speedy filly Eleanora (Letir Mor-Nora) to the helm of affairs as the gates opened and stayed there all the way. Piping hot favourite Pantazi was slow into stride and never quite recovered He nevertheless finished up a poor second.
Trainer Aashay Doctor’s Zuri (Win Legend – Maun Vrat) was fully stretched by jockey Antony Raj to land the spoils in the seven furlong race for the Crystal Man Handicap. Pacemaker Tycoonist put up a good fight and will be worth noting. The mile race for The Cherry Handicap saw the favourite Laamika drift wide in the straight and lose all her chances. The race was bagged by Neil Darashah-trained Togo (Fiero-Duma)who produced a thunderous gallop in the straight to win comfortably in the hands of Arul.
The favourite Cash Your Luck (Pinson-Mineral Deposit) made every post a winning one in the race for the Stand Off Handicap. Trainer Sabeel Shariff who completed a double with this recent import from Mumbai was pretty successful last monsoon and may be worth keeping an eye on during the winter as well. Jockey Vishal Bunde took no chances on the speedster and delivered the goods in fine style. Earlier Shariff had caused a sensation in the day’s opener – The Loch Clieveden Handicap – when his rank outsider Jimmy Bee(Multitude – Skylight Express) sailed passed the on-money favourite Hernod in the straight. Jockey Nikhil Naidu did well to fetch home the honours in this seven-furlong event.
