The excitement of the racing crowd, which had gathered at the Mahalaxmi racecourse on Sunday to witness the thrills associated with the sport, were left disillusioned after the outcome of the races both before and after Zacharias had failed to live up to their expectations. Save for Malesh Narredu-saddled All For Love delivering the goods, punters, who flirted with the chances of favourite horses, experienced a disastrous day.

Yash Narredu settled All For Love behind leaders Ensky and It's My Way and made his move only when the field straightened for home. Spurred by Yash inside the final two furlongs, All For Love (Excellent Art – My Lakshmi) quickened well to surge past Ensky and kept going under the whip to end the jinx of finishing second best on four occasions. Lucio took the runner-up spot ahead of Brave Zulu, who came with a late charge to finish and eye-catching third ahead of Ensky.

Neglected in the betting arena, Sanjay Kolse-groomed Earth staved off the spirited bid of both favourite Red Bishop and Opus Dei to topple her at the finishing line for the Beautiful Stranger Trophy. Entrusted in the hands of 5kg-claimer Ramswarup, Earth (Win Legend – Wind of Soul) followed Emperor Roderic and Alpine Star into the straight before gaining a slim advantage. As the filly started to drift out under pressure, Red Bishop and Opus Dei tried to forge ahead. However, Ramswarup did not let his guard down and kept pushing Earth, who lasted out to win by a head over Red Bishop and Opus Dei, who ran half-length behind. Scaramouche took the fourth berth.

Kolse had earlier led in Eastern Monarch, who outsmarted the heavily-backed favourite Enforcer in the PD Avasia Trophy (Div-II). Enforcer went straight down to business as the gates opened and was stalked all the way into the straight by Eastern Monarch. Apprentice Aditya Waydande-ridden Eastern Monarch (Dali – Honour) engaged Enforcer soon after entering the home stretch and accelerated well to score comfortably over the favourite. Ministry of Time warmed up late to take the third spot whilst hard-ridden Esteban could do not better than finish fourth. 

King Ke hailing from Shroff's stables, though carrying a heavy impost on his back, was fancied to make it four in a row. Eagle Day set the early pace and showed the way to Exuma and Black Thunder  pace over the mile and quarter journey for Gracias Saldhana Memorial Million Oisin Murphy had King Ke in a handy position behind the front-runners whilst Trevor Patel-steered Tiepolo lay unconcerned in the rear. King Ke went off the bridle at the two-furlong marker and started to gain ground on Eagle Day. Tiepolo also made his bid at this juncture as he picked up momentum along the way. Before King Ke could tackle the leader inside the last furlong and half, Tiepolo (Cougar Mountain – Jacqueline) ranged alongside and wore down King Ke, who failed to raise a fluent gallop, after a brief tussle. Try hard as he did to repel Tiepolo's assault Murphy could not ride out King Ke to his full advantage as the winner hung in and leaned on to him in the final stage of the race.

Pradeep Chouhan-saddled filly Admirable made a winning debut in the Faiz Jazdanwalla Trophy, reserved two-year-old juveniles. A. Sandesh had Admirable racing on the haunches of Rambo, who seized the initiative when the six-furlong event was flagged off. With about two furlongs left for home, Admirable (Well Done Fox – Sparkling Crystal) was still racing on the bit when he cruised past Rambo and had the race sewn up well before the winning post arrived. Invictor ran green towards the end before taking the second place ahead of Rambo, who strayed from a straight course in the final moments of the race. Lorenzo completed the final frame of four. Radiant Reign and Zanele attracted a lot betting but they both could not raise any hope for their supporters during the running of the race.

Shroff-schooled last-outing winner Brasilier was expected to register an encore after his fluent maiden victory but the colt turned out a listless performance instead. On the other hand, the Subhag Singh-groomed colt Looking Like A Wow produced another gallant performance in the hands of Ramswarup to bag the Gulamhusein Essaji Trophy. Looking Like A Wow (Dreamfield – Fly With The Wind) made steady progress from mid-bunch to join the issue with Cornerstone, who had taken charge from ownermate Vincero opposite the grand stands and was being hailed as a winner close home. Looking Like A Wow, however, came with a resolute gallop to shock Cornerstone on the post. Absolute Gorgeous ended a two lengths away in the third position while Vincero retired to be fourth. Brasilier failed to figure on the judges' board.

Sandesh, who hogged the limelight with a winning brace earlier in the day, was associated with the flop show given by Bezalel, the shortest priced runner of the day sent out by PS Chouhan in the concluding event. American Eagle from Shazaan Shah's barns, who had no current form to boast, put in a splendid show to score his maiden success in the bargain. Ridden by Waydande, American Eagle (Leitir Mor – Windsor Manor) took the shortest way home at the final turn and came with a devouring run to go surging clear of Savage Peacock in the final furlong. Bezalel made a feeble and vain attempt to catch the front pair before finishing third, a neck in front of Wrangler. So poor was the performance of Bezalel that it has prompted the stipes to look into the running and riding of the hot favourite.

In keeping with the trend of favourites forgetting their galloping shoes in the stables and rank outsiders hitting the bull's-eye, B. Prithviraj-saddled Mriga recorded a stunning upset over Heaven's Rhythm. Favourite Akitania look poised to wrest the lead about a furlong away from the wire but El Moran frustrated the filly. Meanwhile, Heaven's Rhythm caught up El Moran only to find AS Peter-guided Mriga (Phoenix Tower – Leonessa) come out of nowhere to win the race by a nose in a three-way finish. El Moran took the third slot. Youreforfame ended fourth.

The day itself had started on an ominous note for the punters after Nirad Karanjawala's ward Madison outshone the fancied duo of Ashwa Ankara and Marlboro Man. Favourite Ashwa Ankara tackled Impulsive shortly after entering the home stretch and appeared to be on the right track though Marlboro Man and Madison hot on his heels. Madison (Sanus Per Aquam –Miss Highjinks), who had made rapid improvement to catch up with the field despite losing considerable ground at the start, quickened sharply to swoop down on Ashwa Ankara and then Neeraj Rawal drove him fervently to secure an easy verdict. Ashwa Ankara, Marlboro Man and Anaira followed the winner home.
