The celebration of Christmas at RCTC proved joyful for punters as six first favourites and a second favourite obliged them in a Boxing Day card of seven events.Trainer Aashay Doctor registered a well-backed hat-trick of wins at RCTC on Boxing Day. His winners were Meropi, Magnifico and Cigar Galaxy. The first named – a five-year-old mare by Western Aristocrat out of Panamera - lifted the feature event of the day – The Army Cup- with a degree of comfort. Tracking front-running Black Eagle till the straightover this seven-furlong sprint , Meropi and jockey Mukesh Kumar sailed away for a facile triumph with Vincent Van Gogh running on to occupy the runner-up berth. The jockey aptly commented later that he has to thank thebrilliant mare for fetching home this prestigious trophy.

Aashay next pocketed the two divisions of the Twilight Lady Handicap run over a mile.Last outing winner Magnifico (Whatsthescript – Dance The Dream) came with a late run on the outside to peg backImmortal Beauty who had assumed command briefly near the distance post. Global Fashion was an eye-catching third. The lower division saw Paulite Warrior take a huge lead till well into the straight before beginning to shorten his strides.The favourite Cigar Galaxy (Western Aristocrat –Celestial Way) raised a thunderous gallop in the home stretch to ultimately win hands down without raising a sweat. His manner of victory suggests that he can win again. His trainer said later that the well-made gelding unfortunately had a back problem and they have to thank the vet for curing him.

The General AS Vaidya Memorial Cup went according to the script as Pesi Shroff-trained three-year-old colt Duesenberg (Kingda Ka- Sugardrop) with A Prakash in the saddle romped home by five lengths, quite easily collaring the front-running Whirlwind. One race later, Prakash was once again in the limelight as he guided home Habbu-trained Abhicandra (Dali-Roman Flame) to an impressive victory in The Unknown Warrior Cup over the course favourite Morano who was shaping like a winner at the distance post.

Ace jockey Suraj Narredu started the ball rolling for followers of money as heopened the day’s proceedings with a thumping victoryatop Mahesh-trained Cristaldo (Win Legend-Abnoba)who made every post of the Romantic Eve Handicap a winning one. Carnation was a notable second while third placed Schwarzenegger needs to be followed too. Suraj completed a well-backed brace when he piloted Satish Narredu-trained filly Monumental (Air Support-California) to a pillar to post triumph in the 1100m Star Team Plate for two-year-old youngsters.Saiko is the one for the notebook as he may well win his next outing.
