TIME AND TIDE EXTENDS HIS WINNING STREAK IN THE DR SC JAIN SPRINTERS CHAMPIONSHIP

By Usman Rangila | 31 Jan 2026 | MUMBAI

Mr Vikram Bachhawat and trainer Adhiraj S Jodha leading Time And Tide (Suraj Narredu up), winner of The Dr. S. C. Jain Sprinters' Championship (Gr.2)

Adhirajsingh Jodha-saddled Time And Tide, though racing after being laid off for four months, showed no signs of rustiness as he registered his seventh straight success, all in one year's time. Suraj Narredu, who was riding Time And Tide for the first time, settled him close behind leaders Credence and Dream Seller and launched his bid only after the closely bunched field moved into the home stretch. Meanwhile, Dream Seller joined the issue with Credence and wore him down  inside the last furlong but in the interim, Time And Tide had already found his rhythm. Spurred by Suraj, Time And Tide (Dali – Starlet) picked up pace to tackle Dream Seller and left no ambiguity as to who the country's best sprinter is at the moment when claiming the Dr SC Jain Sprinters’ Championship (Gr.2) for the second year running. Dream Seller staved off Miss American Pie's late charge to keep the runner-up berth whilst Credence ran fourth. Shambala and Jade were supposed to pose a threat to the winner main but they both failed to find acceleration in the straight hence could not figure in the finish.

Diego Garcia's prolonged search for success finally came to an end as he left the maiden ranks with a thumping victory in the Oyster Cove Trophy run over a mile and half. Diego Garcia chased bottom-weighted Renoir, who led all the way from the gates and held the advantage till the last furlong. As they approached the destination, Diego Garcia (Deauville – Friendship) moved stealthily when alerted by Suraj to overwhelm Renoir and held on gamely to stay clear of late-finishing Little John, who came with a spirited run towards the end. Caccini also rallied late to finish in the money ahead of Renoir. Ekatarina faded out after racing prominently behind the leaders till the turn and beat just one home in the end. Harrison on the other hand improved to be in the fighting line in the straight but shifted out under pressure before finishing fifth.

Zafferano, first of the three winners sent out by Adhirajsingh, completed an encore with a fluent win in the Enigma Trophy. Ridden well off the pace by Trevor Patel in the initial stages of the mile journey as Lord And Master decided to play the front-running role, Zafferano (Kingda Ka – Auburn) unleashed a splendid turn of foot to breeze past Matisse and Tyrannus, who were in pursuit of the leader, soon after the heads turned for home and sailed clear of Lord And Master inside the final furlong. Tyrannus took the second spot ahead of Black Thunder, who pegged back Matisse for the third place.

Trevor, who also achieved a popular treble, enabled even-money Ekla Cholo to land the spoils in the day's curtain raiser. Faisal Abbas-trained Ekla Cholo (Surfrider – Narya) raced in close attendance of speedy Ananya before challenging her close home. Trevor's strong handling and Lickety Split's inability to keep a straight course at a crucial stage saved the day for Ekla Cholo, who survived to win by just under a length. Between Friends ended a neck away to be third ahead of Ananya, who weakened close home.

Dallas Todywalla-schooled Algonquin provided Trevor his third winner of the day as he returned home with a comfortable win in the lowest class. Top-weighted Algonquin raced on the haunches of It's My Way, who called the early shots over the mile trip with Flash Mob and Wrangler settled close behind. Soon after entering the final run-in, Trevor gave Algonquin (Dreamfield – Auryn) his head following which the bay colt stepped up the pace under the whip and strode out well to oblige his supporters. Beyond Stars, Flash Mob and It's My Way followed the winner home.

Gunfire from Malesh Narredu's yard ran true to the promise shown on his debut run when justifying the punters' faith in the Dancing Prances Trophy. Yash Narredu eased Gunfire into the lead soon after the eight maiden juveniles set sail for the five-furlong scurry and released the brakes at the two-furlong marker. Gunfire (Leitir Mor – Belleflore) then cantered home for an easy conquest over runner-up Ghost of Victory whilst Phantom Strike rallied late to snatch the third slot from Shadai.

Veteran Imtiaz Sait's perseverance with Charlie Brown paid off eventually in the Captain Courage Trophy, the concluding event of the day. The runaway tactics adopted by Akshay Kumar seemed to have worked in favour of Charlie Brown, who gave a gutsy performance when repelling the serious threat posed by Heaven's Rhythm. As soon as the field turned for home, Heaven's Rhythm ranged alongside Charlie Brown and seemed poised to overpower him. However, Akshay asked Charlie Brown (Excellent Art – Queen's Guest) to dig into his reserves following which the bay gelding stretched out gallantly to ward off his rival's threat and post a comfortable two-length victory. Runner-up Skanda arrived late on the scene to put his head in front of Heaven's Rhythm near the winning post. Mulan ran fourth.
