Mr S R Sanas chairman of RWITC to honour Imtiaz A. Sait for completing fifty years as a professional trainer

As the festivities of the Racing Carnival were in full swing on Sunday evening, the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) management decided to honour Imtiaz A. Sait for completing fifty years as a professional trainer. The felicitation ceremony recognised Sait’s passion and dedication to the sport as not many individuals have reached this landmark.

In an emotional speech at the conclusion of the ceremony, Sait recalled the golden words of his master, late Aziz Mahmoud, under whom he started as an apprentice. “Do your best with every runner you have, and you will never go wrong,” is what Mahmoud told him. Sait took this advice to heart at every stage of his career during which he has saddled 2200 winners, including over 150 classics. Seventy-six years old Sait is one of the few hard-working trainers to have graced the sport in India. He is a perfect role model for any aspiring youngster who desires to be in this trade. His mantra? “There is no substitute for hard work.”

Sait also recollected the wisdom of late Soli Captain who told him when he started saddling horses: “Racing is like an ocean, every drop in the ocean teaches you a lesson.” For Sait, there is still a lot to learn in racing. As for reflecting on a trainer’s contribution in a winning horse, Sait put it across perfectly: “It is the trainers who draw a painting; a jockey just has to sign it.

Indeed, Sait has lived a charming life as a trainer, who has earned respect from all quarters—reputed owners, colleagues, jockeys, and staff alike. Indiarace.com congratulates the veteran trainer on this glorious milestone of his career spanning five decades.
