By Epsom Ace | 19 Mar 2026 | KOLKATA

Deputizing trainer Rajesh Narredu leading Heart (Suraj Narredu up), winner of The Parisian Cup

Deepesh Narredu-trained Heart (Gusto-Beldon Hill) produced a thunderous gallop in the final furlong to fly past the field and score a stylish victory in the mile race for The Parisian Cup at RCTC on Thursday. Suraj Narredu, who guided home this ‘wonder filly’ to triumph complimented Deepesh for keeping her fresh which made his task easier after a tardy take-off from the blocks.Booster Shot, who had taken a good lead in the straight had no answer to the powerful acceleration produced by the filly and the race was over in a trice opposite the grandstand.

Suraj Narredu completed a treble during the afternoon – a feat which he inevitably repeats every now and then  with amazing regularity.Suraj’s other two winners were from the stable of Vijay Singh – Stormchaser and Schoenberg. The former, a colt by  Win Legend out of Aerona won the seven furlong sprint for the Sunrise Song Plate from As You Like It who was an impressive runner-up in his maiden start. Suraj finally brought the curtain down on an intriguing afternoon of racing with a pillar to  postvictory astride Schoenberg (Letir Mor – Selfie Star)  in the six furlong sprint for the lower division of the Audubon Handicap.

There were two edge-of-the-seat thrillers during the day. In the opening event –The Esquire Handicap –Shafiq Khan-trained Royal King was ridden to a spectacular triumph over favourite Schwarzenegger. The eight-year-old gelding by Knight’s Tour out of Jeux De Dansewas piloted by Imran Chisty on this occasion. The gelding was fancied last time out but was not ridden in the manner the trainer wanted. He made amends on this occasion much to the delight of his connections.

In the third race of the day – The Exotica Handicap run over six furlongs –Trevor rode an absolute blinder atop Aashay Doctor-trained Cortado (Win Legend-Mannat) to land the spoils literally by a hair’s breadth from a fast-finishing Clever Hans. Trainer Aashay complimented the rider for taking the shortest route home after a tardy start and snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

Trevor was however beaten for pace in the very next race – the mile event for The Artwork Handicap. The favourite Upper Street had no answer to the front-runner Verazzano’s pace as the five year old son of Air Support out of Estedaama made every post a winning one in the hands of Vikrant.

The Rutherford stable pulled off a fine gamble with well-prepared six-year-old Gimmler (Dali-Malakeye Ziba) in the upper division of the Audubon Handicap. It was Antony Raj’s sole winner of the day and he had no difficulty in steering him home ahead of Trillionaire.
