Champion trainer Prasanna Kumar (27) and Lokanath Gowda, who enjoyed a good run this summer, leading in 13 winners dominated the competitive nine-event card on the penultimate day of the summer season. The former recorded a fine treble including Starzella from his yard cantering home in the Bangalore Summer Million and Lokanath combined effectively with Ashhad Asbar registering a well fancied popular double through Sweet Winner and Lots Of Luck. 

Prasanna opened his account in the opening event, the lower division of the Own Opinion Plate, Blazing Pearl from his yard making a smashing debut in the hands of Vivek. The goodtype of youngster was ignored in the betting ring despite the fact that he had impressed most in the final preparatory gallop. The Arjun Manglorkar-trained Wanganui and Lysia from the stables of Sulaiman Attaollahi garnered the maximum support, while Royal Vanguard, stablemate of Blazing Pearl was fancied ahead of Blazing Pearl offered at (6/1). The winner hit the front soon after the eight maiden juveniles came under the starter's flag and showed a clean pair of heels, sprinting home in style to the delight of Prasanna. Royal Vanguard followed the winner home ahead of Lysia, while Wanganui lacked the ability to make a race of it. 

Next the strongly fancied Storm Shadow produced a winning gallop in the hands of Vivek to edge out the lesser fancied Final Call at the shadow of the winning post. Competing in the Leading Owner Trophy,  Storm Shadow, who looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring was backed to the exclusion of his nine runners following the withdrawal of The Leader and Bestidentification. The winner opened at (3/1) before the connections slammed it down to (9/4). The Arjun Manglorkar-trained Disciple in fact opened the favourite at (5/2) before the price on the Arjun trainee piloted by Antony Raj drifted out, freely offered in the end at (4/1). Trevor astride the James McKeown schooled Final Call called the shots for most of the seven furlongs trip and looked set to land the spoils before Vivek riding like one possessed brought Storm Shadow into contention and after a brief duel in the final 100 metres, the Prasanna ward gained the day, much to the joy of the large following. Disciple finished well to save money in place and it will pay to support this five-year-old mare early in the main Mysore season. 

In line for a treble, Prasanna sent out Starzella fighting fit after her victory on the Derby-day and the on-money favourite again produced a stellar effort to romp home a deserving winner. Last start winner Shrishti followed the winner home ahead of Dardanus, who `nosed' out the Aravind Ganapathy schooled Sensuous at the post. Starzella is in rousing form and she is likely to start favourite for the 1000 Guineas at Mysore. 

Sweet Winner from Lokanath's yard was sweetly fancied in the upper division of the Sha Tin Plate run over a sprint. The overwhelming favourite strongly piloted by Ashhad Asbar produced a winning gallop at the all-important end to edge out the eight to one shot Windcleaver from the stables of Vishesh, who had established a winning lead and looked good to score before the public choice spoilt his party. Rank outsider First Choice from Joseph Awale's yard finished a creditable third and is one for the notebook. 

On the strength of his smart victory in his last essay, Lots Of Luck was fancied most by the Lokanath camp in the concluding event, the Holding Court Plate run over a mile and the top choice justified the confidence of his supporters powering home nice and easy to the joy of the Lokanath camp. Rank outsider Unforgettable Star finished on gamely at end to gain the runner-up berth ahead of the last start winner Seize The Grey, who shot ahead at the top of the straight before running out of gas in the final furlong. Lots Of Luck is in good nick and is tipped to complete a hat-trick of wins when saddled next in the forthcoming Mysore season. 

In a pulsating finish, Sicyon from Sulaiman Attaollahi's yard piloted by top gun Trevor Patel edged out the ten to one shot Winfield partnered by Antony Raj and the second in demand at the betting ring, Pledge in a blanket finish. The winner, in what appeared a very open race topped the betting board and much to the relief of his supporters gained the day by the shortest of margins from the grey, who in defeat was not disgraced and lives to fight another day.  

Earlier, Trevor produced a neat pillar to post effort on the Dominic-trained Astrid to upset the applecart of the John schooled Heimirich in the upper division of the Own Opinion Plate. The runner-up was touted a cinch, but he found Astrid a tough nut to crack and had to again settle with the runner-up berth. 

The well-backed  Forever Royal from Narayan Gowda's yard and the friendless Chisox, who stunned the followers of form edging out the lesser fancied NRI Jetpower close home were the two other winners on the day form played true and all the big bettors happily carried many green sacks home.
