Trainer P S Chouhan leading Break Point (P S Kaviraj up), winner of The Dinkoo N. Chenoy Salver

With only four horses in the fray for the Dinkoo N. Chenoy Salver for horses in Class I, bottom-weighted Break Point from Pradeep Chouhan's yard capitalised on the handicap advantage and reduced Saturday's feature event to a one-horse race. Break Point (Dreamfield - Sweet Caroline) jumped out smartly from the gates to grab the lead with PS Kaviraj in saddle and enjoyed an uncontested lead right up till the winning post. The even-money favourite's task was rendered easy as Shambala's saddle got loose and shifted forward shortly after the start due to which apprentice A. Omkar struggled to control his mount. Later, after losing the lead bag from the saddle at the final bend, Shambala finished third behind Chagall, while The Panther finished last. However, Shambala was disqualified as A. Omkar was unable to draw the weight recorded when he weighed out before the race and the order of placing was revised.

Faisal Abbas-schooled Darcy also cashed in on the handicap difference in the DN Zodge Plate, the day's curtain-raiser run over six furlongs. As apprentice Ankush was in the saddle, Darcy (Sanus Per Aquam – St Pauli Girl) carried feather-weight on her back and won start-to-finish. Merlet headed Darcy for a couple strides early in the race before the latter regained the lead. Ramswarup-piloted Challenge Accepted finished runner-up, a short head in front of Suraj Narredu-ridden Your Unforgettable, who had Wind Dancer finishing behind in fourth. As Your Unforgettable was badly interfered twice by Challenge Accepted in the initial stages of the race, Suraj weighed in without lodging a protest, so PS Chouhan raised an objection against the runner-up. Ramswarup was held guilty of careless riding by the stewards, who upheld Chouhan's objection, relegating Challenge Accepted to third and promotinf Your Unforgettable to the second position.

Ramswarup made no mistake later in guiding favourite Snow Girl to victory in the Westin Pune Trophy (Div-II) in which the use of whips was not permitted. Chakar View led the field from the gates until the heads turned for home. Snow Girl (Portamento – Surprise Party), who was in pursuit of Chakar View, surged ahead as soon as the field came in to straight and kicked on gamely to achieve her maiden success. La Dolce Vita improved late to be a close second. Similarly, Victorious Omen also moved in late to be third after the front-runners retreated. Majestic Warrior ran fourth.

The winner of the upper division of the Westin Pune Trophy was decided in a three-way finish in which Appalachian triumphed over Azaadi and Esteban, the highly-fancied pair. Rafael and Azaadi disputed the lead briefly before the latter seized the initiative and led all the way into the final run-in. Since it was a no-whip event, Antony Raj put pressure on Azaadi to hold on to her lead as both Esteban and Appalachian were gaining ground on her. Nazzak Chenoy's ward Appalachian (Planetaire – Surprise Party), who had the services of TS Jodha in the saddle, moved the fastest of the lot as he overpowered Azaadi in the shadow of the post, winning the race by a nose. Esteban ran a neck behind in third ahead of Bohemian Rhapsody, who started galloping when the race was all but over and finished a noteworthy fourth.

An exhilarating blanket finish was witnessed for the Supreme Star Plate, a seven-furlong event for maiden juveniles. Mystica took charge of the running when the starter's flag came down and had debutant Priority Road in pursuit. Acrobatic, Myrina, and Minimus stayed in close contention behind. On entering the home stretch, Antony-steered Mystica was still in command, while Acrobatic, Myrina, and Minimus all charged towards the leader after favourite Priority Road dropped out of contention. Displaying a remarkable improvement over her previous two efforts, R. Ajinkya-ridden Myrina (Deauville – Myrtlewood) from Pesi Shroff's stables stunned Mystica on the post.  Acrobatic, David, who made his run towards the inner rails, and Minimus were in close proximity of each other when finishing in that order behind.

Adhirajsingh Jodha-schooled Diego Garcia, who was consistently knocking at the doors of success found his way to the winner's enclosure in the K. Raghunath Plate. In a surprising but smart move, A. Sandesh decided to set the pace over the mile trip ahead of Angelisa, while Looking Like A Wow and Funny Bunny followed them. Judging the pace well until the field turned for home, Sandesh pressed the accelerator inside the last furlong-and-a-half and found Diego Garcia (Deauville – Friendship) lengthening his stride to frustrate both runner-up Funny Bunny and Angelisa, who made a desperate but unsuccessful bid to catch the winner. Looking Like A Wow finished fourth in front of Wings of Fury, who lost all his chances at the gates itself after a very slow start.

The 20 to 1 longshot Exotic Star, after racing at the rear until approaching the final turn, unleashed a remarkable turn of foot in the straight to surprise the field of seven contesting over the mile-and-a-half journey for the Timeless Beauty Plate. Earlier, Absolutely Serenity broke away from the field shortly after the start and led her rivals into the straight. S. Waheed-saddled Exotic Star (Saamidd – Shivalik Honour), ridden by S. Mosin, made rapid progress, coming around the field and went sailing clear to record her second win this season. Land of Plenty warmed up late to finish second, while Ange Raphael and Merchant of Venice trailed behind.

Hagibis from Nirad Karanjawala's yard was entrusted to a rider of the calibre of R. Shelar and yet attracted a lot of support in the concluding race.  The support proved misplaced as Hagibis failed to live up to the expectations and was outpaced by the Narendra Lagad-trained and J. Chinoy-partnered winner Lickety Split, who showed a clean pair of heels to his rivals over the seven-furlong contest. Exhalt ran on late to edge out Hagibis for the second spot, while Precioso ran close behind in fourth.
