Spectacular Blaze has it easy

Spectacular Blaze (B.Prakash up) winner of the Kanteerava Cup being led in by trainer Mr.Ganapathy

Spectacular Blaze towered over the opposition and the same perception was shared by all and sundry. It came as no surprise that he went into the 1600 metres Kanteerava Cup as a short priced favourite and he readily justified the public support, with an emphatic victory in the races held on Saturday. With a couple of runners who could have stretched the favourite out there for an airing, the task of the favourite was made that much easier. Jockey Prakash had little difficulty in moving up from the mid-group into a striking position at the final turn and then had the son of Placerville dictate the terms after Rainier had the set the pace and shot his bolt at the top of the straight. Spectacular Blaze went clear and won comfortably from a late-finishing Perfect Mover while Miss Beautiful who raced wide all the way, was a leisurely third. Sharp N Smart made good the lack of enthusiasm in the opposition to win the mile long race quite competently. Radical Power set a fast pace and the effort told on him as he had nothing left in him once the field straightened for the home run. Sharp N Smart came through the middle of the field to assume command in the final furlong and won with a great deal of comfort. Favourite Suave did not take a striking position and had to do a lot of running to catch up with the eventual winner. His finishing burst only fetched the favourite the third spot ahead of Initiation who despite a lethargic beginning, had moved up swiftly to be a surprise second. Trainer Michael Eshwer was in the limelight, saddling three winners, all of them at cramped odds. The son of Burden of Proof, Jersey Pride who was backed to the exclusion of his rivals in the 1200 metres Ashwapriya Cup, collared the front-running That’s Magic at the final bend to win with a great deal of ease. Chilly Wind was third while the rest were there to get the feel of the track. Winner number two for Eshwer came through Step On The Gas who proved too good for the field, going clear of the front-running Kaliyug Raja in the straight to record a comfortable win. The jockey of Star Force was too relaxed for comfort. Witch Doctor was another who did not find anyone challenging his supremacy as he went away for an easy win in the day’s concluding race. Force Furor could have a caused a problem or two for the favourite but the jockey took it easy, making the task of the public fancy all the more easier. With big money pouring in on Amazing Warrior, the Samar Singh trainee displaced Scottsville as the favourite. However, Amazing Warrior was not up to the task and ran dismally. Scottsville defied public expectations with a narrow win over Golden Venture and Proud Tradition. Endless Passion recorded a thrilling win over debutant Whisper City earlier in the day. Whisper City was considered unbeatable on the basis of the filly’s blazing workouts but Endless Passion who had the first run on her adversary, quickened at a crucial stage of the race which held her in good stead as the favourite came charging home only to find the winning post coming a wee bit early. In the day’s other action, Fashion Statement who had everything going for her, staved off the challenge of Sleek And Lively quite capably.
