Trainer K.S.V. Prasad Raju’s stable got a shot in the arm with Irish jockey Padraig Brendan Beggy joining them as the retained rider for the winter season. On his first day at Malakpet P.B. Beggy rode a double with supreme confidence and his style of riding was the talk of the day on Thursday. The first win for Beggy was on Pluto Queen, in The Moment in the Sun Plate, division II. The public choice, True Future had established a sizable lead on the straight while Beggy worked his way on Pluto Queen (Gaswar – Sacristia), who relished the Irishman’s hold from the saddle and picked up speed to upset the apple cart of True Future. Driving Aarohan (Emerald Cat – Cordon Rose) to a popular victory in the lower division of The Sound Of Success Plate, Beggy pulled off a double for himself and also his trainer, K.S.V. Prasad Raju. Moving through horses, Aarohan put pressure on the front-running Mighty Power, on entering the straight and sped away to register an impressive victory.

Steel Breaker finished second while Sugar Gold and Mighty Power filled the frame. Jockey Ch. K. Chary had his share of two winners, with one of them being shared in a dead-heat. Chary rode the L. D’Silva-trained two-year-old, Notredame (Captain Rio – Prima Marta), to a start to finish win, in The Greek Goddess Plate. With one run to his credit, Notredame was sent into the race as an ‘odds-on’ favourite. Talking Picture moved to take the second spot pushing back Silk Route to the third position. The higher division of The Sound Of Success Plate, the concluding race of the day, turned out to be an exiting finish with four horses passing the wire almost together.

Cool Spice was the first into the straight with Dancing Fairy (Kly Green – Island Mist) waiting to pounce. Dancing Fairy and Geography raced towards the winning post, with the first named having a slender advantage and the latter closing that gap fast. Amber Rose and Cannon View rallied from off the pace and the two devoured ground in the last 50 metres, to join Dancing Fairy and Geography. The four of them went past the finish together. The judge took his time to separate them in the photo finish and declared a dead-heat between Dancing Fairy and Geography.

Amber Rose finished third, a short-head away while Cannon View was another ‘head’ behind. Faisal Hassan-trained Aspire (Dancing Beggar – Rambagh) literarily flew in the final 100 metres to score an encore, in the higher division of The French Blossom Plate. Ashleen State was making an earnest bid from the start to finish. Glen Gyle, who had received the most support in the betting, chased Ashleen State till the top of the straight and packed up. Royal Shaan started to make his bid and Aspire being pulled out by apprentice Ajit Kumar made his move widest of all. Aspire finished very fast to get past Ashleen State and win. The lower division was won by S.A. Sehzad Abbas-trained Aloisia (Gaswar – Titanium).

Daniel Grant pushed Aloisia in-between Flowers of Music and Samsonite to take charge approaching the final furlong, to register a comfortable victory. Aloisia, who was backed to the exclusion of the other runners, looks to have struck form and in all probability, should make it three in a row shortly. Flowers Of Music, Samsonite and Mystical Knight filled the frame. P.S. Chouhan guided Deshmukh’s ward Young Sapper (China Visit – Run For The Crown) through the shortest way to win The Prudential Champ Plate. Scamper finished second, ahead of The Kohinoor, while Suchiman took the fourth spot. The ‘on-money’ favourite Yakshagana (Dance To Destiny – Executive Angel) made every post a winning one in the higher division of The Moment In The Sun Plate.

Rose Queen, Paris Time and Over Taker filled the board. R.H. Sequiera’s Pygmalion (Case Law – Windermere Star) pulled off an upset in The Supernova Plate. Shooting off to the front on start, Pygmalion was a winner throughout with Scorching Affair, Pure Magic and Chemeli in hapless chase.
