Trainer Vikram Appachu leading Youre A Legend (P Kiran Rai Up), winner of The Octogonal Trophy

Vikram Appachu trained Youre A Legend (Diffident-Post Impressionist) was ridden by apprentice Kiran Rai to a pillar to post victory, in the Octoganal Trophy, the feature event of the day’s races at Mysore. A winner of two races during the Mysore main season, Youre A Legend, was favourably placed on weights and the trainer sensibly used four kilos allowance by declaring apprentice Kiran Rai. Hitting the front quickly after jumping out, Youre A Legend cut the wind, closely followed by Secret Command, The Gain and Miss Ruby. Once on the home stretch, Kiran Rai urged his mount and the gelding picked up speed to get home safely.

The Gain finished second after a hot chase. Trainer Bipin Salvi and jockey S. Sunil pulled off a popular double through Haute Appeal and Bliss. Haute Appeal (Royal Gladiator-Bruges) lifted the Ajantha Plate from start to finish. Approaching the last 300 metres, Prowl King and Leather Queen appeared to be getting closer but Haute Appeal kicked on to stay clear. Prowl King and Leather Queen finished second and third respectively. Bliss (Broto-Maya) justified the favouritism, in the Gersoppa Plate. Having found the right chord this winter, Bliss, a last outing winner, completed an encore. Taking charge from the front running Matter of Opinion, 300 metres from home, Bliss took a two lengths lead but Suave and Mexican Wave came charging, making rapid progress.

Bliss and Suave went past the winning post together and the result of the photo finish showed that the latter had held on by the shortest of margins. Mexican Wave finished third another length behind. Ecuador and Matter of Opinion were reported to have returned lame after the race. Valdir De Souza rode Kishore trained Windsor Square (Joint Account-Sweet Moments) to victory, in the lower division of the Formal Invitation Plate. Settling three lengths behind the leader Eona till the final bend, Windsor Square inched closer and surged ahead inside the last 100 metres. Eona held on, to the second position, from the fast finishing Faction Leader and Milagro. The higher division was won by Mallikarjuna trained Preset (Diffident-Star Festival). Preset, the public Choice, on whom a lot of money came, travelled from about seventh position on the extreme outside and sped past the rest to register a fine win.

Proud Accolade rallied on to finish second, ahead of Secret Fury, Wild Temper and Ansonia. Gara Fluid (Barood-Alisa) surged ahead after a keen tussle with Trafalgar Square on the home stretch to clinch the lower division of the Vijayawada Plate. As the two fought out, trying to match stride for stride, Trafalgar square looked to have a slender edge, but Gara Fluid was ridden out by Deep Shanker to win by three fourths of a length. Unique Star and Aaj Tak filled the frame. Vishal Yadav’s John Galt (Diffident-Watt A Lot) lifted the higher division, in the hands of apprentice R. Vaibhav. Wynn took over the running as the field entered the straight but started to veer out of the straight course. John Galt moved around Wynn with a powerful run and surged past to emerge clear. Wynn finished second in front of Amiera, who shifted towards the inner rails on the straight but failed to make any impression. Master Strategist was withdrawn on veterinary grounds before the race. K.P.G.Appu rode Dinesh Pujar’s Fast Colours (Bee’s Prospector-Silk Tapestry) to a run-away victory, in the opener, the Sangam Plate. Getting into the front within the first two furlongs, Star Favours extended the lead to seven lengths on the straight. Imran Chisty guided Darashah’s World Is Too Much (Flitch-Alto Miss) to a popular victory, in the Mysore Zoo Plate, the concluding race of the day. Winning Desire brought the field into view on the straight with a sizable lead but went wide alarmingly. Imran sized the opportunity and rushed on the inside to emerge clear.
