Trainer Rakesh leading Lake Emerald (Vinod Shinde Up), winner of The Rajakumari Leelavathi Devi Memorial Cup

Rakesh-trained Lake Emerald (Black Cash-Eau De Vie) scored an encore while winning the Rajkumari Leelavathi Devi Memorial Cup, the feature race of Friday’s card in Mysore. The top two market fancies Lake Emerald and Bold Police entered the straight together and fought out every inch with the former holding out by a short neck at the wire. Bold Police started to veer out in the last 250 metres and the rider failed in his attempts to keep him on a straight course. Trainer Monnappa had a back-to-back double, winning on Looking To Luck and Rising Rainbow.

Looking To Luck (Dark Nile-Aflicker) took a slow jump at the start but brushed up quickly and improved steadily throughout to whiz past in the last 100 metres and wrap up the lower division of The Ooty Plate. Roto Rooa finished second while Aaj Tak and The Rolls filled the frame. Rising Rainbow (International-Rainbow Vision), ridden by S. Sreenath, took charge 250 metres from home to win The Cochin Plate convincingly while All For Cash chased her in vain in the final furlong.

Jockey Goutam Raj Urs pulled off a double on the day, winning on Feroz M Khan-trained Saddler and ending the day with Vishal Yadav’s Secret Fury. Saddler (Pennine Ridge-Safe Haven) ran off the pace at the rear till the bend and improved through the field to challenge Bocconcino strongly and get the better close to the winning post, in The Mangalore Plate. Secret Fury (Placerville-Mitzvah) lifted The Hampi Plate, the concluding race of the day. Travelling out wide, taking the final turn six wide, Secret Fury surged ahead to win from the late-finishing Time Is Precious.

Dinesh Pujar’s Hitz (Conquering Hero-Natural Spell), who had put in a disappointing performance in his earlier essay, after a win, came back to show his true form in the higher division of The Bababudan Giri Plate. Secret Pilgrim and Hitz tracked each other in front and entered the home stretch together. Secret Pilgrim fought with Hitz till the last 100 metres while the latter had the advantage throughout. Express It finished on to beat Secret Pilgrim and take the runner-up berth.

The lower division was won by Bipin Salvi’s Holiday Date (Concordial-Sparkling Cyanide). Grabbing the lead quickly after jumping out from the gates, Holiday Date made every post a winning one. Rashida, The Force and Lyra were all in a line but found the winner too good and finished behind in that order. Rich Rogue (Mr Mellon-Poison Ivy) was hard-ridden to victory by P.S. Chouhan, in the higher division of The Ooty Plate. Happiness was in front in the last 100 metres but succumbed when Rich Rouge charged along the inside to surge past by three parts of a length, close to the winning post. Yes I Can finished a close third ahead of Sky Empress. Hero’s Dominance (Bee’s Prospector-Curio) lifted The Spark Of Life Plate, the opening race pf the day, in a thrilling finish. Non Stop Cannon led early, while Hero’s Dominance was settled back in fourth position. As the horses turned to enter the straight, Hero’s Dominance was found to be hanging out and the jockey pulled him out to the extreme outside and flashed in the closing stages to put his nose in front at the wire to beat Non Stop Cannon. Spanish Crown was finishing on along the rails to be a close third.
