It was a long day at the races on Wednesday, at Mysore, with a card of ten races being framed with 118 horses having accepted. The higher division of The Coimbatore Plate, for horses rated 60 and above was billed as the main event of the afternoon. Miss Ruby (Ejohar-Suriyothai) from R. Mallikarjuna’s yard put up a very impressive performance to pulverize the field over the six-furlong sprint. This five-year-old mare had finished a close third to Edmondo, when the two met four weeks ago. Edmondo had picked up a penalty of seven points for the win and was given the task of carrying a back-breaking weight of 66.5 kilograms.

Miss Ruby’s rating went up by a single point for that effort and the trainer declared apprentice G. Adarsh to ride thereby utilizing an allowance of four kilograms. The speedy Miss Ruby hit the front early and preferred to settle in second when Youre A Legend shot ahead. Entering the straight, Miss Ruby surged into the lead with ease and trounced the field. Tina’s Triumph finished second many lengths behind while the top-weighted Edmondo finished on, being third. Edmondo and Real Magic burst their blood vessels during the race.

Brazilian jockey, Silvester D’Souza was the most successful professional in the day with three winners under his belt. A back-to-back double for Bipin V. Salvi on Star Of Hearts and Bliss, a hard ride on Micheal Eshwar’s Billo Rani were his successful mounts. The price of Bliss eased out to 5 to 4 at race time after opening at 10 to 8 on. D’Souza settled Bliss (Broto-Maya) beautifully in third till the top of the straight and slipped in along the inner rails to emerge clear.

Mexican Wave made a futile chase in the last 300 metres while Spanish Crown was finishing on to take the third spot. Star Of Hearts (Warrshan-Lisianki) was backed to the exclusion of the other runners in The Himalayas plate, run over a mile. Alejandros broke away from the field to establish an eight-length lead and entered the home stretch with that advantage. Once on the straight, Alejandros started to shorten his stride rapidly while Star Of Hearts slipped in through the shortest way and Miss Mexico on the outside, both picking up speed at the same juncture. The two fought till the wire with the favourite Star Of Hearts being ridden out to a ‘neck’ victory by Silvester. Royal Liason finished third. Our Lancer was withdrawn on veterinary grounds. Billo Rani (Brave Hunter-After Flow) forced her way through the crowded field near the 300 metres and slipped away to carry the top weight to victory, in the higher division of The Salem Plate.

This was a hat-trick performance by this Micheal Eshwar ward, having won her previous two runs this season. Collateral’s second ahead of Fantabulous Prince was the surprise element in the race. A fourth win for Silvester looked imminent going by the cramped price of Blue Thunder, in the lower division of The Coimbatore plate, the last race of the day. But that was not to be as the trainee from Eshwar’s stable performed below par to finish in the ruck.

Cannon Scot (Kly Green-Thunder Cloud) raised a fluent gallop along the rails to win the race and give his trainer R. Mallikarjuna a well-deserved double. Place Her Well got the better of Turf Raider to take the runner-up berth. An announcement after the race indicated that the favourite Blue Thunder was trotting lame after the race. Trainer S. Rakesh pulled off a remarkable double through Chinab and River Force. Chinab (Polar Falcon-Alexanderie) led from the word ‘go’ and quickened well to break away from the pack on the straight and won comfortably from Suave, who improved from behind to finish second in The Thiruvananthapuram Plate.

This was the first win of his career for apprentice Sikander Ali khan. A literal coup was pulled off successfully by the stable on River Force, in the lower division of The Salem Plate. Smashed in the betting ring from fours to even money, River Force (During-Social Place) showed tremendous improvement after sporting blinkers, to make every post a winning one. The World Is Too Much finished on being second ahead of Byzantine. Feel My Heart was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Vishal Yadav trained Lyra (International-Live Audience) denied the supporters of Bullish Luck a chance to encash their tickets, winning The Antequera Plate by the shortest margins. Royal View was in the same frame, finishing a close third. S. John piloted Ranjeet Shinde’s Arkwright (Libor-Asalib) to victory, in the higher division of The Sirsi Plate. Amiera beat Aryansh and Sterling Ship for the second place. Prowl King and Atmospherics were withdrawn. The lower division was won by B.K. Narendra-trained Sauce Piquant (Hammerstein-Rhinefield Beauty) beating Killer Foot and Secret Girl in a close finish.
