Trainer Dinesh Pujar leading Jericho (Janardhan Paswan Up), winner of The Solitaire Cup Div-I

Pratap Kamath-trained nine-year-old gelding, Jericho (Cruachan-Golden Future) eked out a gutsy win in the higher division of The Solitaire Cup, the feature of mid-week’s races at Mysore. Thumping Victory, who had planted in his previous essay had mended his ways and took a good jump to run prominently in front. Jericho joined Thumping Victory on entering the straight but started to drift out. After a duel for half a furlong, apprentice Janardhan Paswan managed to ride out Jericho to a length in front of Thumping Victory.

Mr. Sunrise failed once again finishing a tame third after receiving maximum support in the betting. The lower division was won by Sharavanan-trained Bee For You (Bee’s Prospector-Ashwa Kirti). K.P.G. Appu positioned Bee For You at a striking distance in second, behind the early leader Rota Rooa, till the final bend and sped past on entering the straight. Faustian came with a sustained run towards the closing stages of the race but found the winner hard to catch. The favourite Suave finished a disappointing third. Alejandros was withdrawn after he dropped the rider and bolted on the way to the gates. Jockey A. Imran Khan rode a popular double for trainer Rakesh, through Khwaish and River Rule.

Khwaish (Suances-Princess Leela) showed plenty of speed to shed her maiden status, winning The Mauritius Pearl Plate. Khwaish, who was inclined to run out in her first run six weeks ago, showed eagerness to hit the front over the extended trip and galloped freely to score an impressive victory. Dream Of Gold was in futile chase throughout the trip. River Rule (Royal Kingdom-House on the Hill) scored an authoritative win in The Skyline Plate. River Rule got the better of Milagro on top of the straight and held on to score her second successive success this season.

Rising Rainbow improved in the final 100 metres to finish third. Bipin V. Salvi scored a double through Caldera and Express It. Caldera (Hurricane State-I Have a Dream) lifted the lower division of The Panaji Plate, run over a sprint distance of six furlongs. Actor, Admiranda and Nishi Girl were fighting it out inside the final 300 metres and Caldera rallied in late to sweep past the three to win by half a length, despite bursting her blood vessels. Nishi Girl ended up second ahead of Admiranda and Actor. Chandrashekar, the rider of Admiranda, raised an objection against the rider of Nishi Girl for bumping him and pushing him towards the rails, depriving him of a clear run. The rider of Actor raised an objection against Admiranda for coming over to him.

A Stewards enquiry was also ordered into the running of the race. After viewing the replay of the race, the stewards upheld the objection by the rider of Admiranda and revised the order of placing by relegating Nishi Girl to the third place. A quite gamble on Express It (Glory Of Dancer-Argentina Express) was pulled out by Bipin, in The Karkala Plate, the concluding race of the day. Express It galloped well in the hands of apprentice Vaideeshwaran to get past the front-running The Gain. Super Sha improved late to finish third ahead of Cannon Scot. Tejashwi’s New Pastures (Local Talent–Ancestry) made every post a winning one, in The Native Tactics Plate. Setting out in front from the start, New Pastures galloped freely in front and was never headed. The favourite Royal Liason was being pushed in mid-field, to stay in place, passing the 800 metres and improved late to pass the tiring horses in front to finish second.

Visual Element (Sir Bordeaux-Royal Tour) tracked Killer Foot and Splash Of Beauty till the top of the straight and surged ahead to score readily. Mexican Wave warmed up late to take the second spot ahead of Saddler and Amazon. Prince Ashwin was withdrawn on veterinary grounds while Isinbayeva was withdrawn after she refused to move in. The strong handling of P.S. Chouhan enabled Zareer Darashah’s Carnival O Joy (Ontario-Lead Me Lead Menot) to win the higher division of The Panaji Plate from Sunshower. Lancashire and Wynn tried to catch up inside the last 100 metres but failed in their effort and finished third and fourth respectively. Yes I Can was withdrawn before the race.
