Padmanabhan's Palazzio's Sun displayed an amazing turn of foot while annexing The Mysore Dasara Sprint Championship, the stellar event in Thursday's race card at Mysore. The four-year-old colt cracked the local course record by winning in a smart time of a little more than One Minute and Ten Seconds. Having carried sixty Kilos on a track that had received a fair amount of rain in recent weeks, this was a superb achievement. The terms of the race favoured Rare And Precious. The two of them had finished in close proximity of each other during the Bangalore Summer Season. Rare and Precious was better off by a couple of Kilos at the weights today. Racegoers considered him to be good value for money, as a result of which, the odds against Palazzio's Sun doubled in quick time. Those who had gambled against Palazzio's Sun were left to rue their decision at the end of the afternoon. Aquitaine raised a fluent gallop and showed the way to Palazzio's Sun, Badge Of Gold and Diamond Hunter, while Harish decided to keep Rare And Precious in mid-division till well into the straight. Wayne Smith had little problem in settling Palazzio's Sun today, and the pair of them were prominent throughout the trip. They seized the advantage at the bend and shot away from their rivals. The acceleration was so quick and sudden, that it caught everybody napping. The son of Pallazio was in no mood to relent as he was seen galloping resolutely towards the wire. Rare And Precious came with determined strides but could no better than finish a fair second. Diamond Hunter got up on the last stride to put his nostril ahead of Badge Of Gold. The winner has signalled his intentions of making a bold bid to lift The Sprinter's Cup on 25th October at Hyderabad. The Sanctity Trophy was split into two divisions. The race has been named after a horse trained many years ago by MB Mangalorkar. It has become an important and regular feature in the Mysore racing calendar. Over the years, the stable has been pitching one of their better horses in this race. They succeeded this year with Snob Value, who made all the running while winning the upper division with a measure of comfort. Snob Value had shocked the followers of form by winning his previous start as a rank outsider. He shouldered the winning penalty with ease on Thursday. Top weighted Lava impressed most by carrying 64.5 Kilos into second place. John has struck a fine partnership with the winner. Snob Value is easy to handle because he is blessed with strong initial speed. Prithviraj's Madam Rich had signalled a return to prime form by running a couple of nice races in recent weeks. She was a comfortable winner of the lower division of this race. Madam Rich raced in mid division till the bend before she was produced on the wide outside. Harish gave her a couple of backhanders and asked her to quicken. The seven-furlong trip suited her perfectly, as she was seen going past a bunch of helpless rivals. The official margin did not confirm the ease with which she won today. For the second consecutive time Noble Guest had to be content with the runner-up berth. Needofthehour ran an unextended third. This horse should win a sprinting event before the end of this season. The K T Shamaiah Gowda Memorial Trophy saw Irfan Ghatala's Kajuraho winning her second consecutive race in as many weeks. The filly was lucky to have been retained in the same class. Her trainer decided to capitalize on the situation by declaring apprentice Khurshad to ride her. As a result of the boy's allowance, Kajuraho was racing at the same weight as last time. She raced well within herself by collaring Spicy Star in the last furlong of this race. Kajuraho's job was simplified by the fact that joint favourite Pleasuring burst her blood vessels during the race and ended in the ruck. A nice little gamble was landed on Appachu trained Champions League. The horse had come down a class and had obviously been prepared judiciously. He was slammed in the ring, and he soon displaced favourite Definite Believe from his place at the top of the betting boards. Gnaneshwar brought Champion's League with a flourish to go past the speedy Definite Believe. The runner up was unable to handle the penalty that he had received for his previous winning effort. He may have to wait for the smaller season to earn another bracket. The day started with a couple of races for horses in the lowest class. Mexican Wave was a popular winner in the day's opener. Suraj took him to the front and the horse showed a clean pair of heels to the others. His frontrunning tactics were too powerful for Smile Again and Stillato. The last named seems to be getting back into form and can be earmarked for an early success. The only other race in the day's card was won by Feroz Khan's Minchu. AR Mani scored a rare winner with this horse. Minchu weaved his passage through the middle of a crowded field and ran away from Khoka. But for an unenterprising ride give by his rider, Khoka would have ended much closer to the winner.
