Master Blaster Puts up A Class Act

A class act performance of Master Blaster (Hymn – Velocette) floored the opposition in The Twiggy Plate, the main event at the Delhi races on Friday. Jockey Ranjeet Singh, who had equalled the tally for the championship on last Tuesday, has finally taken a decisive lead over last year’s champion Rajinder with two wins. Apart from him, saddler Aleem Khan was the other professional to earn a double today. The last top-class event of the season enthralled the gathering when nine contenders made a significant headway in the straight over the 1100m distance.

The speedy Shocking Star was well within the sight of victory until Master Blaster came from the hind group to spoil her celebrations inside the distance post. Red Reef, who was found not to be in his touch, warmed up late to finish just nostril behind the huffing-puffing Shocking Star. Ishwar Singh Parmar's trainee Master Blaster, who had earlier created a sensation by sharing the top slot with the North Indian Derby winner Real Smasher, had an easy run in his last attempt to Moongate man, who ironically failed to live up to expectations, and was observed to be struggling before finishing off the board. Aleem's Valour (El Johar – Divine Desire), who had been performing consistently by playing the role of second fiddle in the last three attempt, eventually returned to the winning block and that too over six furlongs.

The success was expected by many considering the fact that his lone win came over five furlongs and he was later observed to be even struggling over the identical distance. However, his supremacy was challenged by the runner-up Master Arts and fourth placed Warrior Race for interference which was let down by the authorities. Undoubtedly, Warrior Race escaped from a fall within the early 100m after crushing through the fence in The Foxy Lady Plate. After Valour, Ranjeet Singh got united with Sol in the upper division of The Angel Divine Plate. The son of Glory Of Dancer and Dance In The Stars had it easy after getting into the lead from the top of the final curve of the seven furlongs. The horse was pulled up lame in his previous outing and was kept in a slow work before tasting his overdue win.

The lower division of the plate was at the mercy of Flying Cat (Bee’s Prospector – Clarion Lakeside). This was Flying Cat’s maiden win. Bharat Singh's Revengeful Knight (Sir Bordeaux – Noctume) turned out to be an opportunist as he slipped through the fence to score inside the furlong of the seven-furlong The Pearl Of Life Plate. Doon Boy ran on to be second ahead of Amity, who was promoted ahead of courage Under Fire, who was relegated from the third position for hampering the way of the second named. Narmada (Ontario – Fireheba) held fast-finishing Little Master off by a head in The Amonita Plate, which was the concluding event of the day.
