Trainer Tejaswi's Raider's Sun carried a back-breaking weight of 63 kgs to an impressive victory in The El Dorado Trophy, the feature event in Monday's race card at Mysore. The well bred five year old was always considered to be a top class horse, but a few niggling problems had retarded his progress. After a change of ownership, the horse was relocated from Bangalore to Mysore. Raiders Sun landed a nice priced gamble on the opening weekend of the current season. He was kept under wraps thereafter, and campaigned unsuccessfuly over various trips in the last couple of months. He had flown from the rear to finish a close third in his last start , thereby indicating his readiness to win again. The stable took notice of his performance, and decided to run him within ten days of that effort. With Eona and Arabian Speed cornering most of the money, Raider's Sun was friendless at 8/1. The two market leaders were getting a lot of weight from him, and racegoers expected a straight fight between the pair of them. Most of them were caught napping by the performance of this resolute galloper. With Snap Dragon, Eona, Arabian Speed and Fire Brigade tearing away in front, Rajesh Babu had a lot of space to settle Raider's Sun. The duo bided their time at the back and moved only after straightening for home. The scene in front had changed alarmingly. Snap Dragon and Eona had run out of gas and faded from the scene. Arabian Speed had seized the advantage ,and with Gnaneshwar making free use of the whalebone, was moving the best of the lot. Raiders's Sun began his challenge at this stage, and within a matter of seconds, collared the frontrunner. It was smooth sailing thereafter, as Raider's Sun put his neck in front and ran away for an easy victory. Fire Brigade ran on be third ahead of a tired Special Force. Both Tejaswi and Rajesh Babu had one of their best outings in recent times. Both scored trebles during the afternoon. They had combined earlier to score with Bullish Luck. The rank outsider was loafing at the back and galloped only in the last hundred metres of this race. With favourite Kar O Bar getting somewhat tired in the final stages, Bullish Luck came like a train and nailed her on the post. A stunned silence greeted the announcement of this result, as the winner was available at 60/1 in the betting rings. Tejaswi dropped another bombshell in the form of Briannsta. With rookie Noorulla goading him, Briannsta made every post a winning one. He was just about able to keep public choice Ho Chi Minh at bay. A hard ridden Ciampino ambled along to save place money. Rajesh Babu was seen at his best while steering Golden Flowers to a short head victory over Forever Grande, thus completing a rare treble in his career. Both these runners were gracing the rear till well into the straight ,and made their move at almost the same juncture. They flew from behind, and were locked together at the post. Golden Flowers was lucky to get the nod in an extremely close finish. Early leader Demanding started to slow down in the final furlong, and this allowed Suave to run into third place. Trebles and fourth linkers have become a regular feature in the current Mysore Summer Season. A major portion of the credit for this phenomenon goes to trainer Darashah, who happens to have the most powerful stable at this centre. The three year olds in his stable have come to hand, and are proving to be a handful in open company. Each one of them has made a successful appearance in Class IV. With the stable scoring regularly, retained jockey Gnaneshwar is having a ball. He assisted Darashah in scoring thrice today, and completed his own fourth link with Monappa's Opera Princess. Three year old Gershwin was entered in a mile race for horses in class IV. Punters were happy to support him at 60/100. They were neither worried by his heavy impost, nor by his eleven opponents. Gershwin and Gnaneshwar were happy to make the running ,and did not bother to look back in the straight. Cruise Control ran on to finish a poor second. Ohiyesa was the other three year old to tackle stronger opposition. Docked at an extremely high rating of 64 by the handicapper, the chestnut gelding was giving weight to a bunch of well performed horses. His run today was a revelation. Ohiyesa carried the top weight to an easy victory, and while doing so, stopped the clock at an impressive 1 minute 25.8 seconds. This was a truly smashing performance. In all probability, Ohiyesa will now find himself in Class I and this would result in the horse being sent to race at Bangalore. The third and final winner for this formidable pair of professionals was Master Prospect. This horse was looking well in the paddock and his performance on the track was equally impressive. Allowing no-hopers Cadre Noir and Zindabad to lead on sufference, Gnaneshwar was content to wait till well into the straight. He released the brakes thereafter, and the horse responded immediately. Master Prospect posted a comprehensive win ahead of a late finishing pair of Noname and Romantic Design. Darashah and Gnaneshwar joined Tejaswi and Rajesh Babu in cornering the day's honours.
