The current Mysore season has seen jockey Prakash riding with rare aplomb and leading the jockeys tally by more than a "distance". Most of his victories have been gained easily ,while a few have been achieved through sheer grit and determination. He seems to have regained his old rhythm, and this is a good omen for the leading stable that has retained him. He was seen to advantage while riding public choice Fearless Spirit in The S N Harish Memorial Trophy, the feature event in Thursday's race card at Mysore. Fearless Spirit was looking a picture in the paddock and was reported to be working well in his morning trials. The odds against this even-money favourite began to expand rapidly as we approached race time, while there was huge support for the Prithviraj trained Panchakshari as the horses reached the starting gates. These two horses were joint favourites as the runners took off for this six furlong sprint. Fearless Spirit was drawn on the inside, and after a lethargic start, found himself at the tail end of the field. On the other hand, Panchakshari was the smartest out of the gates and was travelling well in the hands of apprentice Shoaib. Prakash was seen pushing the favourite in the backstretch, but Fearless Spirit continued to be last as they entered the straight. The supporters of this horse gave up hope and reconciled themselves to an obvious result. Panchakshari began to shorten his strides near the distance post and was soon challenged by Billy Blackjack. It was at this very stage that Fearless Spirit started responding to the efforts of Prakash. He began to devour ground through the middle and began picking up a bunch of tired horses that were ahead of him. To the delight of his numerous supporters, Fearless Spirit put his neck in front and eventually scampered away from Billy Blackjack and Panchakshari. Prakash's positive attitude and relentless efforts came in for all round praise from those who had witnessed this performance. The lower division of this event was annexed by Turbo Babe. Known to be a slow starter, this five year old is generally left alone from a betting perspective. The moment she took a level jump on Thursday, it was clear that she would be prominent at the finish. Look Alike had been backed with conviction, but a lot of money went down on this horse as the runners jumped out of the gates. Look Alike jumped awkwardly and almost succeeded in dropping jockey Shafiq in the process. She trailed the field for most of the way and finished last of all. Turbo Babe took full advantage of her smart jump, and under the forceful guidance of Rajesh Babu, went away from Greek Ship and Show N Tell. Midsummer Star was a disinterested fourth and should be supported in a similar set when he reappears in the winter months. The Udhagamandalam Cup was another interesting race in the day's card. After a dismal performance in his last start, Milford was supported once again to lift this trophy. Warren Singh's Stone Of Destiny was well weighted and it was expected that he would be the one to beat. One-eyed Super Woman from Byramji's stable was the other fancied runner in this race. Allowing Matter Of Opinion and Enchanting Girl to show the way into the straight, Appu brought Milford from the mid group and won with a measure of comfort.Super Woman was outpaced and had to be content with the second place. The one to catch the attention of the racegoers was the finishing efforts of Cafe Coffee. Apprentice Santosh K was amazed to see this top weighted runner drag him into third place. A better effort from the rider would have seen this horse causing a major upset in this event. Cafe Coffee will surely win a race in the coming season. Prakash and Foley scored another double when Humble Guy defied the handicapper in a Class III race and ran away from Kalpavruksha and Always For You. This well bred horse can win again on promotion. Foleys' horses are looking extremely well this season , and performing like well oiled machines. Dhariwal's Aristos made a smashing reappearance on a race track after eight months and ran away from his rivals in The Racinpulse Website Trophy. This race was earmarked as a handicap event for three year olds. Aristos had run a brilliant race in March while finishing second to Celestial Son. With hardly any opposition today, Aristos was a half-money favourite amongst a dozen starters. Suraj Narredu did not move a muscle while guiding him to an eight length victory over Royal Bank and Fire Of Joy. This got abroad colt should benefit from this run and show out again during the ensuing Bangalore Winter Season. Another well bred horse to make his seasonal appearance on Thursday was the Babu Rao trained Undue. During the early stages of his career, Undue was considered to be a classic hope of his connections. He was campaigned over a staying trip during the summer season, but had performed pathetically in that race. He had finished in the ruck and was reported to have bled during the race. He was rested thereafter and came to Mysore as the favourite to win a class III race over 1400 metres on Thursday. He performed as expected and won in a workmanlike fashion. Victory Verse was second while Madam Rich was a close third. Undue was looking very well, and should progress from here. He should be fancied over middle distances and left alone if campaigned by his connections over staying trips. The day ended with another well supported horse emerging victorious. Berkeley Square was well supported in an open betting event and came through a well spread out field to hold Zangi at bay. Cadre Noir was the one who displayed his present condition and form, by running an eyecatching third behind the above mentioned duo. Cadre Noir will be too good to miss in his next start over a mile.
