The penultimate day's racing of the Mysore Summer Season witnessed a long card of nine events, with the main attraction being The Star Supreme Cup. This mile race for horses in the lowest class at this centre was split into two divisions .The absence of an outstanding runner in either division made it difficult for the punters to make their choice, and the same sentiment was reflected on the betting boards. Two four year old horses that had never won a race in their careers were installed as the market leaders in the upper division of this race. Star Of Paradise was known to be comfortable over a mile, and had finished close to the winner in the higher class. He had a few things in his favour. This was the first time that he was running in the lowest class, had a good jockey to guide him, his trainer had put aluminium shoes on him and he had been working well. Very little was known about Chocolate Brownie, except that, there was a lot of money riding on this colt. Both these fancied runners were seen gracing the wrong end of the field as Khoka led from Wonder Splendour, Priceless Legacy and Cold War. They both made their moves at the same juncture. Rajesh decided to bide his time with Star Of Paradise on the rails, and seized an expected opening near the 300 metres marker. Periera on Chocolate Brownie got into a mess, as he lost precious ground by producing his horse on the wide outside. He further compounded his problems by dropping his whip in the final stages of the race. One can understand the pain of his supporters as Chocolate Brownie failed to get up, and lost narrowly to Star Of Paradise. Chocolate Brownie will be too-good-to-miss in his next start. Activisto was successful in nosing out Khoka for the third place. The lower division was won by the Tejaswi trained Magical Ecstasy . Tauseef had no problem in guiding this favourite past his stablemate Stickiewiketdotcom, and running away from the field. Ravininski was a late third. Magical Ecstasy was the first leg of a well-backed treble from this stable. Their second winner came with Turbo Babe. This mare was known to have terrible gate manners, and was therefore sold by her earlier owners. The new connections had given her enough gate practise and were hopeful of her chances. They backed her accordingly. To their anguish, Turbo Babe lost a lot of ground at the start. Tauseef did not panic and kept improving his position as they raced in the back stretch. He chose to keep her on the rails and saved a lot of ground in the process. It seemed as though luck was on her side, as she was presented with a dream opening near the 400 metres marker. Tauseef pushed her through and she lasted out to keep Glint Revelation and Amatol at bay. Tejaswi's cup of joy was full to the brim, when last outing winner Hidden Pleasures came with a late run and went away from the opposition. The 4 kg allowance claimed by Ashok Kumar came in handy, as she passed the front running duo of Royal View and Super Strike. This was the second successive win for Hidden Pleasures ,and it would not be surprising if she repeats in a similar set in the future. Mazeppa came with a late run to be a faraway second. Last outing winner Lyra made light of her penalty and scored an encore over a trip of 1400 metres. In her last start, she had got up and beaten Artistic Way near the winning post. Artistic Way was better off at the weights, and was fancied ahead of Lyra by the patrons. Sandokan was supported once again, but, he flattered to decieve. It is difficult to comprehend the reason for the inspired support for Sandokan on every occasion that he accepts to take part in a race. Sandokan led into the straight, but caved-in the moment he was challenged by the others. Lyra came with a late run, and went past Artistic Way to register a fine win. Sensitive Prince decided to gallop when the race was over, and got up in the final few strides to take the second spot ahead of Artistic Way and Sandokan. A terms race for three year olds generated a lot of interest amongst the racegoers. Eona, Swiss Queen, Looking To Lead and Spark Of Symphony were fancied by their respective connections. On sheer ratings and past performances, Eona stood tall amongst this set. The only thing against her was her last two runs, wherin she had fared poorly. Tuesday's race was a revelation, as Eona went to the front and cantered away from Swiss Queen. Jockey Rajesh completed his double on this filly, as he held her on tight reins while going past the winning post. Authoritarian signalled a return to form as he finished purposefully and ended a late third. The rest were outclassed. Spark Of Symphony burst her blood vessels during the race. A neat gamble was landed on the Pradeep trained Classy Don. This was the third straight win for this sparingly raced four year old. A good quality in this horse is his ability to accelerate from any position. Rajesh Babu rode a confident race on this gelding, as he settled him beautifully in the early stages of the race. Classy Don kept improving his position as the runners took the final bend, and sped away from the rest as they charged for home. The winner showed good improvement over his last run, and won easier than the official verdict. He should be a strong contender to make it four-in-a-row, when he reappears in the early stages of the Mysore Main Season.
