Dangerous Illusion Wins Days Feature

A lacklustre card of eight events was framed for Wednesday's racing at Mysore. There was hardly any enthusiasm amongst the regular racing patrons as they arrived at their respective centres. Darashah trained Dangerous Illusion had the distinction of winning the feature event of the day, which was a seven furlong race for horses in the highest class stabled at that centre. With a lot of support for Connaught Square and Mount Royale, the rest of the runners were available at fancy odds. The race itself saw Pure Gold and Sensitive Prince sharing the early lead followed by Arkwright, Dangerous Illusion and Mr Bureaucrat. Gnaneshwar had Dangerous Illusion on a tight leash as the horses took the final bend and entered the straight. The moment the front runners spread across the track. He pushed his mount through the pack and won easier than the official verdict. Arkwright did well to run into second place ahead of a tiring Pure Gold. It was a memorable afternoon for trainer Tejaswi as he saddled a treble for the first time in his career. It started with Classy Don, who happened to be the shortest price favourite of the day. Jockey Tauseef got a scare when he found himself at the tail end of the field during the early stages of the race. Instead of biding his time, he pushed the horse on the wide outside and took over the running as they entered the straight. Classy Don veered inwards under pressure and in doing so hampered the running of Viking Victor. The favourite stretched out comfortably in the final furlong and beat Much More and Viking Victor. Although Viking Victor finished third, his jockey Imran Chisty decided to raise an objection against the winner. After lengthy deliberations, the stewards decided to overrule the objection. It may have been a different story if Viking Victor had managed to finish second. His second winner was Assaye, who won the lower division of the Own Ordain Cup. This horse had been given more than a dozen runs, and his handicap had been brought down very methodically. Running over a scurry trip, this speedy horse had no problems when shown the daylight by his jockey. He easily overtook the front running pair of Valiant Romeo and Proud Tradition and was eased up near the winning post to win from Royal Mirchi and a late finishing Zooming. He completed his treble in the very next race with Miami Gold. There was huge support for last outing winner Master Prospect, but it was very evident from the running of the race that this gelding was not going to win today. Dare You Say, Fire Brigade, Windsor Square and Faster Than Light were fighting out the issue as the runners took the final bend. Jockey Ramesh brought Miami Gold on the wide outside and was able to peg back the challenge of Fire Brigade. Faster Than Light was able to nose out the rest in a tight finish for third place. Pradeep's ward Great Combination was an obvious choice for the opening event of the day. Facing a very moderate set of a dozen runners, he was available at backable odds because he had burst his blood vessels in his previous start. There was no such problem today as Great Combination was seen to be toying with his opposition. Wellington and Secret Moment filled the frame. Pradeep's other runner of the day was the Western India import called Golden Flowers. With Gnaneshwar in the saddle, she was installed as a firm favourite. She ran pathetically to run down the field as the nine year old Differential came through the middle and beat Father's Glory. Son Of Fortune was a plodding third. Warren Singh's Mahseer was another well fancied runner to win in the day's card. Allowing Born Purple to lead him into the straight, Imran Chisty pushed Mahseer to the front and although Cold War made a valiant bid on the wide outside, the favourite lasted out and won convincingly. Bossy Boss stayed on to take the third spot. Tejaswi's treble was definitely the high point of the day’s proceedings. This addition to his tally has put him amongst the top four trainers for the season.
