Enya Returns to Winning Block after a Season

Fag end of the racing season in Delhi is turning out to be gold mine for those horses who have not been able to earn brackets so far. In a card of six races framed for Tuesday, at least four horses (Revengeful Knight, Daring Love, Enya and Serious Attitude) found their winning shoes. Enya recorded a facile victory in the Royal Western India Turf Club Cup, the feature event of the day. The combination of trainer A Khan and jockey SA Shah clicked as the duo shared a double each. Enya was the only horse who had shown vast improvement but considering the rousing form of Ode To Nature, she was rated just below the latter while the top contender Sonic Boom was in with the heavy impost of 67 kilos.

When the field was sent off for the five-furlong event, the favourite Ode To Nature, who was taking on the top-class runners for the first time after a quadruple, was seen breathing down on the neck of the daughter of Steinbeck and Adorer. But as soon as the duo approached the corner of the curve, Ode To Nature almost bowed down and even failed to finish on the board as Sonic Boom, Ashwa Pratap, The Rock and Middle Man finished ahead of him. The winner, who has the staying stamina, should eye for the next venture. The day's opener – The Hazi Ali Plate (1,600 m), had a small group of five horses. Of these, three runners caught the attention of the turf accountants.

Sitting fourth, Bhatart Singh's trainee Revengeful knight (late Singh Is King, out of Sir Bordeaux and Noctume) waited for his turn to come by and turned the table on the leader Nonios inside the distance. The other fancied horses were the youngsters, Aali Janaab and Ashwa Prithvi, who were in with a lack of experience of running over the assigned distance. The pair finished third and fourth respectively. Magan Singh-saddled Lilly (Duja-Mistica) just managed to maintain the pillar-to-post attempt in The Mahalakshmi Plate. Jewel Star, who tried hard to turn the tide, failed short by a neck. Devputra, who ran third, is knocking at the door. In the Mumbai Plate, jockey SA Shah looked to be in a tearing hurry as if the winning post was somewhere around the bend. Darling Love packed off the then front-runner Ashwa Padma (fourth) and the late-galloper Stunning View and Heavenly Angel, who finished second and third respectively.

The daughter of Ontario and South Beach should complete an encore. Arthur Saluez's Masquerate (Barood-Dhanadal) upset the applecart of the market-fancied Ashwa Pranita in the upper division of The Gateway Of India Plate. The latter, who originally finished third before being awarded this place, had objected the way of running of Perfect Affect who obstructed her path from 700m to the winning post. The run of the duo along with Classic N Mystic, who came fifth, should be kept aside. The lower division of the plate saw Serious Attitude (Flitch-Lady Of The Lake) handing Valour, the second hot favourite of the day after Ode To nature, a severe defeat.
