Master Harmonica Makes Fillies Dance to Her Tune

By gender her name must start with Madam, but the fascination of the owner with the word of "Master" (as most of his horses have been christened with the name "Master") made her to be called Master Harmonica. And the filly lived up to the name while notching up a significant victory in the AB Stud Fillies Trail Stakes at the Delhi races on Thursday. Trainer Ishwar Singh Parmar, who saddled the victor, had all the reasons to smile. He led in five horses owned by Sunil Kumar Verma. Incidentally, none of a trainer has been able to achieve this feat in the recent years.

Jockey S Shiv Kumar was the other professional to boot home a treble in the card of seven races. Racing after a gap of nearly 20 days was still under threat as the intermittent drizzle that started in the morning continued during the meeting. Amidst the sun playing hide and seek and overcast sky, the going was on the softer side. Tracking Pretty Good till the corner of final curve of the seven furlongs, Master Harmonica (Majestic Missile – Andillisa) stepped up the pace leaving the favourite Ashwa Aparna in the lurch. The latter bled through nostrils. Skyscrapper, who looked stronger at the same juncture, had to shift out before finishing third.

HA Khan-trained Destined Prince (Royal Kingdom – Empress Ann), who had had his last victory over the longer trip at the western race courses, found his winning rhythm in mile trip, which was the day's opener. Kiana, runner-up of the North India Derby, once again failed to justify the favouritism finishing third behind Blue Lagoon (Flitch – Smile A Mile) and Assertive in the Border Security Force Cup. Ishwar's Sonic Boom (Placerville – Miss X O Lence) dealt strongly with the class 1 field despite carrying a massive weight of 62 kilos over seven furlongs.

Ishwar got his double through Fascinating Memory (Tirol – Universal Gear), who was found bleeding through nostrils. His fourth victory was enabled by Little Master (Case Law – Little Baby) in the upper division of the Young Senor Plate. However, Little had to sweat out against More Than A Woman (who could have turned the table) and Dancing Babe. Yet another close win by Fearless Tiger (Emerald Cat – Anivarsary) in the lower division of the plate brought the fifth win for the ongoing champion trainer.
