Afea landed spoilsports in The North East Zone Plate, the main event of the Delhi races on Tuesday. Manbir Singh, who owned and trained the seven-year-old gelding, was the lone professional to notch up a creditable double. The son of Pennine Ridge and First Love, Afea has always been the most prominent trainee for young Manbir. However, he was unable to raise a winning gallop after coming from Bangalore. Feeble riding prevented him to earn a bracket in the last outing, but there were a few suggestive displays that helped him to gain victory on this occasion.

Improving from the hind group, Afea had to overcome four contenders near the final furlong but Irfan lost no control over his patience and forced him to make a way from the widest out of front-runners to score impressively. The Dukes, who tried his hands through the shortest way, had no answer but to settle for the runner-up berth by pushing Red Cat back. Ouef Toba, who had a forward run and finished fifth behind impressive Oyster Blue, looked regaining his rhythm and is likely to soon earn bracket over the shorter trip. A Khan's Aali Janab (San Francisco – Ric Rac) came out of a maiden status after overcoming an objection raised by the second place holder El Sharara in the day's opener, The South West Zone Plate.

El Sharara broke out with the field but had to receive an interference and that stopped him from gathering the initial momentum. However, his stunning turn of foot may help him to be a good galloper. Flight of Fancy, who ran third, should not hold the maiden portfolio any longer. S Nawab-saddled Kohinoor Empire (Conquering Hero –Angel Face) registered a stunning victory in the upper division of The East West Zone Plate. The gelding had a lethargic beginning and was seen toiling hard at the back of the field till the top of the homestretch. Classic N Mystic and Benedictus bear watching. The lower division of the plate saw Flying Majesty (Ansbach –Majestic Bay) justifying the top billing.

The filly should complete an encore. Manbir Singh's yard Persian Power (Mr Mellon – Darkside Of The Moon) showed a clean pair of heels after a gap of a couple of seasons. Lightning Fast, who ran fourth, is knocking at the door. Anamika (Barood – Dhanadal) succeeded in maintaining a start-to-finish bid in The senior division of The J & K Zone Plate. The junior plate was bagged by Bhoomi Putra (Greensmith – Quick Shine).
