Goodwood Park Rises to Occasion in Jain Jubilee Million

Magan Singh-trained horses seem to have developed a habit of rising to the occasion in the gala events. After Kiana bagging the Jagatjit Industries North India 1000 Guineas, Naughty Lass sauntered the field in the Global Stud Million, and now it is the turn of Goodwood Park to add yet another feather to the cap of the saddler by annexing The Bookmaker KBL jain Golden Jubilee Million at the Delhi races on Tuesday. Interestingly, all these successes came just within a month. Magan, Roopendra Singh Shekhawat and jockey Rajinder were the successful professionals to share a brace each respectively on Tuesday.

Keeping an incidence of meeting with interference in the last outing at bay, Goodwood Park (Sussex-Venice) turned the bitter taste of defeat into joyful victory. However, here too his chances looked bleak initially, as he ran at eighth position in the field of 11 horses even at the top of the homestretch. But Parmod held patience and made no mistake in guiding Goodwood Park to change the track from the rails to the standside to dominate the last 20 metres of the 1,100m's target. Miss Burgeon, who saw the lead changing hands from her to Master Belief before regaining after turning for the straight, pegged Pretty Girl back for the runner-up slot.

The favourite Ashwa Aprana had no other option but to play the role of onlooker finishing fourth. Ashwa Panchhi, who received check before the bend, and Golden Route, who was held up for clear passage towards the winning post, ran at the back of the field. However, the run of the duo should be kept aside. Rajinder's mount Flyby (Ontario-South Beahch) gave an impression of the favourites going to rule the turf after making every post a winning one in the upper division of The Sanja Bai Jain Memorial Cup.

However, it could not happen till the last race of the day, the lower division of The Har Parsad Jain Memorial Cup, where Deepak Kalra-saddled Ode To Nature (Gaswar-Blue Hen) took command nearing the 400m marker, and won comfortably. The junior event of The Sanja Bai Jain Memorial Cup had a stunner in the way of Ashwa Pakhee (Hammerstein-Ruby Tuesday), who was driven out under sufferance to pip Murban at the wire. The market-fancied Imagine once again flopped under the jockeyship of Syed Afsar Shah. After receiving interference before the red marker, he finished fourth behind Revengeful Knight.

Ishwar Singh Parmar's Sonic Boom (Placerville-Miss X O Lence) was ridden out cleverly by the visiting jockey CS Jodha to lift The Raj Bai Memorial cup. Sonic Boom, who was unable to bear the pace of Gin And Tonic before going down narrowly over the shorter trip two week ago, was forced to make a quick attempt to set a sight on top at the top of the curve of the mile competition. PS Chouhan looked helpless on Middle Man as he fell short by three parts of a length behind the winner. Enya ran on to be third and is expected to return to the winning block soon.

K Ali Khan's trainee Dolton Power (Classic Tale-Witness To Class) raised a winning gallop in a start-to finish attempt in The RL Jainee Memorial Cup. Turkish Doll's late gallop enabled her to finish a close second. She should make amends. Kerry Blue, who ran on to be third, is knocking at the door. The senior division of The Har Parsad Jain Memorial Cup witnessed a close finish in which Ashwa Paylia (Hammerstein-Genuine) foiled the pillar-to-post bid of Spot Hit. The latter should soon find his winning ways.
