Shub Shubh Retains The Champion Sprinters Title

Shub Shubh proved his superiority once again by retaining The Champion Sprinters Cup at the Delhi races on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Rose succeeded in bagging The Indo Tibetan Border Police Challenger Cup. Jockey Ranjeet Singh and Trainer Magan Singh were the successful professionals to share a brace each respectively. Fighting against a mediocre field whom Shub Shubh (Hymn – Miss Discreet) had already thrashed on several occasions, made him money-back favourite in the season's first big event for the horses aged over four years.

It was a familiar scene as Shub Shubh sat close second to the leader Gin And Tonic till the top of the homestretch of the six furlongs contest. Soon he found himself on the course of fourth straight victory under the whip. However, the timing (1:13.19 seconds) in which he chestnut completed the target does not reflect his true calibre. Shub Shubh has not seen such a rousing form during his three-year tenure and may annex the President of India Cup to be held later this month. Shub Shubh’s ownermate Ka Ching made a late appearance on the scene to share the runner-up slot with The Rock.

After receiving a close defeat at the hands of Sparkling Gold in the previous outing, the Magan Singh-trained Rose (Epicentre – Bollinger) rose to occasion to pip Ashwa Pallvi by a three-parts-of-a-length at the wire over the mile. Ashwa Pallvi should make amends. Sudden Impact made a late urge to keep the late-finishing Real Scotch at bay for the third place. The latter should strike soon. Fearless Tiger, who showed the speed till the final furlong, should bounce back over the shorter trip. Benedictus ran on to be an impressive fourth.

The day's opener saw Ranjeet Singh guiding the fortunes of Doon Boy (White Crown – Ballad Dancer) at nourishing odds in the upper division of The Golden Ascot Plate. Ranjeet continued to show his prowess by helping Energetic Girl (Bee’s Prospector – Young Senorita) to maintain the start-to-finish bid despite changing the course in the straight in the senior division of The Diamond Lad Plate. The run of the favourite Trusted Friend is best ignored.

Jewel Star's performance should be kept aside. The lower division of The Diamond Lad Plate also witnessed a rank-outsider Real Speed (Ontario – Maratha Princess) dominating the turf by working her way in a wire-to-wire attempt. SP Singh-saddled Johnny Bravo (Hymn – Ranora), who was backed to the conclusion, was able to turn the table on Ho Chi in the middle division of The Golden Ascot Plate. The latter should meet with success soon. The final division of the plate turned out to be a walk over for Red Reef (Classic Tale - Red Rosette), who routed the field without sweating out.
