Master Blaster proved to be too good in The Mathura Road Plate which was earmarked for the class three horses at the Delhi races on Wednesday. Trainer H Ali Khan was the lone professional to earn a double.Rain, which was the main reason of delay in the proceeding of the Delhi season 2010-11, struck again to mar part of Wednesday’s programme. The drizzle turned into heavy showers as the races unfolded and finally made the going unsafe for racing. Slush coming out of the hooves of the front-running horses made the task difficult for the followers as faces and goggles of jockeys were fully covered with mud. Eventually, the authorities had to call off the last two races of the card of six events. Ishwar Singh Parmar-trained Master Blaster (Hymn – Velocette) once again showed his staying capability after improving his position from fifth position to fourth at the top of the seven-furlong curve.

When he started inching towards the leaders, Shy Beauty, the oldest runner in the field, and Kohinoor Beauty had no reply to his strides in the straight. Kohinoor Beauty later managed to get neck better of Shy Beauty for the runner-up berth. H Ali Khan-saddled Nonios (Flitch – Woodlander), with two wins already to his kitty, became the second horse after Shub Shubh to complete a hat-trick this season. Racing to the pace of Brustic Brave, the gelding was only alerted to the task while straightening for the homestretch. However, like previous meetings, he survived from getting a scar by the challenger Kiana by a head at the wire. Incidentally, it was the third straight narrow win for the Ranjeet Singh-ridden gelding.

The well-bred Kiana once again failed to come out of the maiden status. Even the use of sporting blinker and basket bit for the first time did not bear fruit. The filly bears another chance up to the mile. Deepak Kalra's charge Genius Boy (Kly Green – Island Mist) enabled his partner and last year champion jockey Rajinder to taste first victory in the season while winning the day's opener, the upper division of The Vidhan Sabha Plate. Incidentally, it was also the maiden win for the colt.

H Ali Khan's Benedictus (Puerto Madero – Innara) succeeded in bagging the lower division of the plate. Benedictus initially could not break out with the field, but jockey Danish managed to get him into the rhythm before making headway to the final furlong.
