Nothing Sudden About Sudden Impact’s Victory

For Sudden Impact, it was almost a cakewalk. The six-year old demolished the field en route to lift the Dashmesh, Hargobind and Livestock Farm Cup at the Delhi races on Thursday. Mumbai-based jockey DS Rathore booted home a double by guiding the fortunes of Ishwar Singh Parmar's charges, Shubh Shubh and Little Cut. Reinman Harkesh Kumar was the other professional to follow suit through Sudden Impact and Green Ribbon.Shah Nawab-trained Sudden Impact (Hymn - Steinby), who had a near miss in the last outing as his saddle slipped, was sent out in the top hole today.

Running over a furlong more within a close proximity of two days, did, in fact, help him win after almost a year. Seeing the front-runner Divinegrace getting exhausted at the corner of the final curve, Harkesh simply prised Sudden Imapct away from the pack. Jockey Rajinder, who has put on weight around, succeeded in putting his mount, Real Scotch, behind the victor. Sudden Impact should be eying for an encore. The champion sprinter of the last season, Shubh Shubh proved his mettle in the Ilheus Plate. Prior to the race, many people had raised their eyebrows about the Ishwar Singh Parmar-trainee’s speed over five furlongs.

Oeuf Toba was the fastest from his block but was never allowed by the top-weighted sprinter to have a clear advantage. Running within the shadow of him, Shubh Shubh (Hymn - Miss Discreet) cut his task short before entering into the final furlong to complete the distance in 58.69 seconds. That’s just decimal 14 seconds more than his actual weight of 58.5 kilograms. Oeuf Toba, who was in the lighter side of scale, should cash in on the advantage in the next outing. Arthur Saulez-saddled Green Ribbon (Barood – Wings Of Dawn) left the rest of the field huffing and puffing in the upper division of the Dance Away Plate. Gamati, who held the runner-up berth, received a slight check initially and her handicap of over 12 kilograms was another disadvantage.

Go With The Flow was an impressive third and to be noted over a longer trip. The lower division of the plate went in favour of Little Cut (Case law – Final Cut). Hansraj looked to be vastly improved after a lung opener and was the best among the rest. Zulfiqar Khan's trainee Oyster Blue returned to the winning block by making every post a winning one in the Homeward Bound II Plate. However, the dark bay filly of Tirol and Marathon Maid drifted out alarmingly in the straight. King Challenge, who ran on to be second, and Ashwa Gamini, who came fourth, should earn laurels soon.

Manbir Singh's Kemrock (Major Impact – Freedom Cry) toppled the applecart of the favourite Kiana in the Ballo Plate. The market-fancied filly could not recover after having received a severe check within the early furlongs and flopped to be third behind Sangreal.
