Usually over a long distance, a horse is given a breather to show his potential, but the case of Breaking Mould was different. He responded well on the urgings throughout to score superbly in the RP Vohra Memorial Cup at the Delhi races on Tuesday. Mrignainee demolished the field in the day's supporting event, the Chief Secretary cup. Jockeys Rajinder, S Amjad Khan, saddlers A Khan and Deepak Kalra shared a brace each. Sitting fourth till the half-way mark, Breaking Mould (Bee's prospector-Amazing Show) was never allowed to run freely. Amjad, who guided the colt, kept him on strong urgings till he improved two places.

By the time he reached the final curve, the leaders, Dancing Beauty and Master Blaster found their supremacy coming under threat. A handicap advantage also played a vital role in his victory as Master Blaster, who was the next best and observed to have been changing legs repeatedly in the last furlong, was in receipt of excess weight. Dancing Babe (Classic tale-Slice of Lime) galloped late to finish a nostril behind Master Blaster. Dancing Beauty, the fillies trial stakes winner, had a disadvantageous scale that affected her performance. Amjad displayed a powerful acceleration on Quality Assurance in the Shamnath Marg Plate.

Looking for an overdue victory this season, he kept the horse within the striking distance of the front-runners and finally caught Rabi Kounga napping. Rabi Kounga was further displaced by the late galloper Afea. Replacement of a full-fledged jockey in place of an allowance carrying apprentice made all the difference for Rabi Kounga. Mrignainee (GS Shekhawat atop) made every post a winning one over eight furlongs competition. Assertive, who came second, was alerted to the task a trifle late. Ashwa Prayag, the favourite, failed to rise to the occasion and finished off the board. In the upper division of the Administration Plate, jockey Rajinder had an armchair ride on Odds N Evens. The daughter of Ontario and Against All Odds handled the maiden class attempt superbly in a start-to-finish bid.

The opening joint favourite Ashwa Shourya overcame the early hiccup to make a late surge for the fourth position. The lower division of the plate saw Gloria making a stunning gallop for the top plum. The four-year-old filly from the Western India, who flopped in the lone outing here, looked fit as a fiddle in the paddock. But considering the previous record, many were seen queuing up in front of the bookmakers stall to cash-in their cards.

The filly, who ran fourth to the Indian Champion Jacqueline before struggling for fitness, is expected to complete an encore. Real Strong, who failed to stake a claim narrowly, may strike soon. Mettalika enabled Rajinder to complete his double in the Old Secretariat Plate. The last season's colts trials Stakes winner had developed a blood vessel problem in the previous outing. He should complete an encore on promotion. The run of Queen of Sun is best ignored. Doon Boy caused an upset in the day's concluding event.

Jai Prakash, who replaced Gurpreet singh, helped the five year-old gelding measure Fearlessnegotiator by three-parts-of-a-length at the wire. Classic Mystic, who was facing the class four for the first time, ran bravely before finishing third. The filly should soon raise a winning gallop among the matured horses.
