After a year of the pandemic Covid19, horseracing is back and in full scale at the Nuwara Eliya racecourse following all the Covid19 norms and safety procedures.

Horse racing was 1st introduced to Sri Lanka in the 1840’s by Mr. John Baker, the brother of Samuel Baker, with the inaugural race taking place at the Nuwara Eliya Racecourse in 1875.

The most historical Governors Cup regarded as Sri Lanka’s very own horseracing Derby and the island’s own will be held for the 150th year on 15th April 2021.

The Governor’s Cup day is full of excitement and a day out for all the Tourist, Families, Locals, Corporates, etc., with Live racing, Live entertainment and lots of prizes and surprises for all.

We have 5 races on the card for the day with The Governor’s Cup – Group 1 – 1800 meters the highlight of the day having 9 horses to claim for the winning trophy.

So let’s get rolling for the historical day.
