13 Mar 2024

I am happy to share that in the Cabinet meeting today i.e. 11th March 2024, approval has been accorded to the creation of nearly 300 acres Mumbai Central Park in South Mumbai by amalgamating 175 acres of Coastal Garden in the land reclaimed from sea and 120 acres of Mahalaxmi Racecourse land which the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) has voluntarily agreed to return back to State Government/BMC. As per decision taken by RWITC in their EGM on 30th January 2024 where 76.24% members of RWITC voted in favour of this proposal to return 120 acres of land leased to them nearly 100 years ago, to State Government/BMC permanently. At the same time, the State Cabinet has approved the proposal of BMC to renew 30 year lease of RWITC (upto 2053) for the remaining 91 acres where the activities of RWITC will continue in future also. I thank the Managing Committee of RWITC and all the eminent members of RWITC for their historic and exceptional support to the proposal of State Government/BMC to create Mumbai Central Park of nearly 300 acres, including 120 acres of turf club lease land in possession of RWITC since nearly last hundred years.

This was the dream of Hon'ble Chief Minister and Hon'ble Dy. Chief Ministers of Maharashtra to create a world class 300 acre Mumbai Central Park in Mumbai on the lines of central park in Manhattan, USA and Hyde Park in London and dedicate it to citizens of Mumbai.
