Racing Incidents
HILLFIGER (Neeraj Rawal) was extremely fractious inside the gates and the right fore of the horse got stuck in the starting stall for a considerable period of time and it sustained a bleeding cut injury on right fore fetlock. Under the circumstances it was withdrawn on veterinary grounds before coming under Starter's orders. Trainer Mr. Irfan Ghatala was informed that he must produce a Fitness Certificate from the Club's Veterinary Officer before accepting with it again. Jockey Valdir De Sousa, the rider of CASH IS KING, was fined Rs.1,000/- for shifting in and causing interference to SPARKLING CAT (M.F. Ali Khan) on his inside approaching the 1000 Metres. Jockey M.A. Gallagher, the rider of ARABIAN GOLD, was reprimanded for not maintaining a proper course thereby inconveniencing SPARKLING CAT (M.F. Ali Khan) on his inside approaching the 800 Metres. Jockey N. Harsha, the rider of AMAZER, was fined Rs.2,000/- for not persevering with his mount during the race. Trainer Mr. J.H. Dhariwal and Jockey M.A. Gallagher were questioned regarding the running and riding of ARABIAN GOLD in the above race. The trainer stated that (a) the last run in which his charge won was a 3 year old Maiden Race and today it was running in an open class; (b) in this race he had instructed the rider to settle in 3rd, 4th or 5th position as it was running over 1400 Metres and do his best in the straight; (c) the rider fully followed his riding instructions and his charge could only finish 4th; and (d) under these circumstances he was satisfied with the riding of his charge by the rider. The rider stated that (a) he was instructed to settle his mount in 3rd, 4th or 5th position during early stages of the race and ride out in the straight; (b) he rode as per instructions; (c) near 700 Metres he was hampered for room and had to slightly check his mount; (d) after entering the straight he fully rode out but the horse did not respond much; and (e) in his opinion the horse required some more distance and may perform better with blinkers which he informed the trainer soon after the race. Their explanations were noted.
