b g MAJOR COLOURS, a declared starter in the above race, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on the morning of Friday, 6th January, 2017 as it was found to be suffering from pyrexia (fever). Under the circumstances the gelding was withdrawn on veterinary grounds. Tr. Farley Rodrigues was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

ZAZEN (Arman Khan) which was fractious while being stalled was slow to begin.

FRANCINA (B Mahesh) which was extremely fractious while being stalled was slow to begin. In view of its behaviour Tr. Javed Khan was advised not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Starter in a barrier trial during the hours of morning track work.

KAARTIKEN (Pintu Das, drawn 6) was buffeted for room soon after the start by MCCARTNEY (App Jorawar Singh, drawn 5) and BOURNVILLE (Afzal Khan, drawn 7).

Jockey Pintu Das, the rider of KAARTIKEN, was fined a sum of Rs. 3,000/- for excessive use of the whip (1st offence). An objection was lodged by Jockey Shezad Khan, the rider of HELICONIA, placed 2nd by the Judge against Jockey B Mahesh, the rider of FRANCINA, placed 1st on the grounds of “interference in the first 50 metres of the race whereby the winner knocked me ‘out’ from the inside, as a result I lost my position and consequently the race”. The Stewards after interviewing Jockeys Shezad Khan and B Mahesh, viewing the CCTV replay of the race and taking into consideration the opinion expressed by the Stipendiary Stewards decided to over rule the objection and ordered the Judge’s placings to remain unaltered. The “All Clear” signal was hoisted. At a subsequent enquiry held by the Stipendiary Stewards Jockey B Mahesh was fined a sum of Rs. 15,000/- for careless riding in that while maneuvering his mount to take a passage in the early stages of the race, which at that very moment was also being attempted by HELICONIA, he caused Jockey Shezad Khan, the rider of HELICONIA, to check his mount and lose some ground.
